Strange stripe in the middle of prints

Hi,

I’m seeing a very strange issue with my prints both PLA and PETG on both smooth and textured bed sheet.

Printed with Prusament PLA at 0.20mm SPEED profile, 210C/60C temp and default printer settings.

As you can see in attached pictures when I print this first layer test in all 4 corners of the bed, they look ok. When I print in the middle, there is the weird stripe of missing filament.

I’ve also attached bed level visualiser from octoprint and picture of the heatbed. Does this “sweating” of the heatbed look normal?

Thanks

Dom

I've certainly not experienced the marks on the heatbed like yours, they look more like grease or oil marks. Along the the left hand side there appear to be other deposits, I'd suggest wiping the heat bed with a kitchen towel or similar to see if they wipe off.

I'd also suggest cleaning the plate with hot water, unscented dish soap and a pan scourer ( I use a sponge with a coarse green scourer). Wipe it dry with a paper towel and see if that helps.

It's difficult to tell from the photos, but I suspect your live Z is a little high as well.

Lastly, is this happening at the same position on the bed with both smooth and textured sheet?

@gordon-w

I've cleaned the smooth bed sheet with 99% IPA before each print. It does happen on the textured sheet too. Let me try to wash it with warm water and soap.

I would have thought 99% IPA will do a good job cleaning the bed sheet. Also the mark seems very straight line always in the same spot. Like if the filament isn't sticking in the spot on the bed.

When cleaning the bed sheet I noticed a sign of my old print which I think might have left this imprint matching exactly the stripe I'm seeing.

I'm gonna try to print on the other side of the print sheet.

I've printed in on the other side of the steel bed after a good clean and it has the same issue.

@dzalewski

Shadows from previous prints are nothing unusual. I would check the flatness of the print bed with a steel ruler in all directions.

Spoke to the support and I'm getting new Y carriage.

@dzalewski

Heavy! I am pleased that the problem could be solved so quickly via the support department.

Hopefully everything will fit after the exchange.
Good success 👍

My first 3D printer and first time dealing with Prusa support:) Replacement part arriving in UK on Wed next week. Not bad!

Glad you've found the problem, I've not had to talk to them, but the Prusa support team have a generally good reputation.

It turns out that the X axis belt which had of its teeth completely squashed and flat see https://imgur.com/gallery/66v9tdJ .

Most likely it was my fault when I made it too tight and the printer head was barely moving. Prusa support was great helping me to diagnose to issue and initial they sent me new Y carriage, then a new belt with 3 days UPS shipping from CZ to UK. It's my first 3D printer and I'm glad there is support I can count on.

Nice that support helped out so well.  I use small conical spring washers to help level out bed carriage fluctuations as much as possible prior to calibration.  Seems to help some.

@dzalewski

This is the big advantage of the Prusa printers. There is support and contact persons. With the cloned devices things look rather bleak.
