Rough surface after nozzle change

Hi all,

I've recently changed the nozzle over on my Prusa MINI after it had begun to fail. Since then, the surface of the parts I've been making has been really rough (see below images).

I've tried a number of things to trouble shoot the issue including:

  • Adjusting the PINDA sensor to the correct height (using the credit card method)
  • Tightening the belts
  • Lubricating the smooth rods
  • cleaning out the teeth in the extruder gear
  • double checking all the machine screws are tight

Does anyone see an obvious reason for why the surface quality has degraded so much?

Any help is much appreciated.

Linden.

Two questions:

  1. Did you redo your Z offset?
  2. Is it the same brand, type, and size (0.4mm) of the nozzle?

So:  How was the old nozzle failing; is this the same?

Cheerio,

@diem

Hey Diem, the old nozzle was clogged and under-extruding causing the filament to jam in the extruder gears and eventually strip.

I replaced the 0.4mm nozzle with an identical one that I bought from the Prusa Eshop and it now extrudes correctly without jamming the gears so it's not the same problem repeating itself.

Hope that helps.

@cwbullet

Hey Chuck, Yep I replaced the nozzle with the exact same nozzle from the Pruse Eshop.

For the Z offset I used a credit card under the PINDA sensor and adjusted the height of the nozzle according to the instruction given online. After that I did the first layer calibration as usual and attempted the print again but still had the same rough surface finish.

Hope that helps,

Linden.
