Prusa mini+ PETG stringing
Hi All,
I'm a new purse mini+ user, and I have issues with stringing with a brand new prusament petg. I did some retraction test with prusaslicer and prusament profile.
I started with all default settings (3,2mm retraction distance), this is the result:
then I tried to increase the retraction distance (see measure in the photo):
but due to the very bad results, and the fear to increase too much, I roll-back with standard settings (3,2):
but the results are still worst than before... how can I have a print without stringing with prusament PETG?

Your filament is damp. Dry it and try again.

really? It wet so quickly? What do you use to dry? Is the sunlu s1 dryer box or similar sufficient?

That looks like it would work/actively-dry the filament. I use a ‘filament drier’ that is really just a food dehydrator.
The one you linked to is pretty sweet- and would be good if you are using one filament on one printer. If you have more printers and need to keep more filament at the ready, those at $44 each would get expensive (think of an MMU2 with 5 active filaments).
It is amazing how much better well dried filament prints. I live in a very dry area and I still dry my PETG after a couple of days. Nylon/PCTPE I do the day of.
I also dry my filament and then put it in a larger ‘zip-loc’ freezer bag with a desiccant holder that I designed and printed. It hold indicating desiccant so you can see if the bag has picked up moisture.

How about decrease retraction length to 2.0mm?

I too was thinking of buying a food dehydrator, but since I only have 2 printers, and I use 1 at a time as a hobby, I bought the sunlu s1 that I should receive tomorrow ... I have already seen that it will be necessary to modify it by adding a fan, but I hope it does a good job! Then once they are dried I will vacuum them (thanks for the link, that project is very interesting!)

OMG 2.0mm seems a dream! Did you decrease only retraction length or you modified the temperature too?

I only decrease the length. About temp, it depends on your filament specification, not all filament are same, i use 230c but you might have different temp with your filament. Anyway i have dried my PETG before. So you might want to buy filament dryer Like this one ... i think this is an investment for long term usage, you will need this sometimes... sunlu S1 only keep dry when you printing, but you can't use it for a dryer... my sunlu s1 only max about 50% humidity and 40'c so i using eibos cyclops to dried my filament. Eibos dryer can do up to 10% humidity and reach higher temp than sunlu s1

Finally I change my order and switch to the eibos series x, because to mod the s1 with a fan I have to spend a little less than the price of the eibos

with the new dryer, i tried to dry the same petg and try to reprint... i would never have believed it, but the difference is incredible with the same settings the stringing is 0!!!

That is PETG... they should be dried before you print... sometimes PLA do stringing too... well at least you already have a good filament dryer... one problem has been solved.
