PETG printing - surface not so nice as expected

Hi all,

up until recently I just printed PLA with my Mini+ and I am very happy with the results. But now I ordered a spool of Prusament PETG - the orange one - and I simply cannot get the same print quality as with PLA. The surface of the prints is just not very smooth, the printing "lines" are very clearly visible and do not form a smooth surface.

I tried to adjust Z-Level and printing temperature - went from the proposed temperature of 240° in PrusaSlicer up to 246°, and while that did improve the quality somewhat, I think that there is still something not right.

I did my tests with the Prusa logo print, I just changed the material to PETG in PrusaSlicer. On a side note, with the current firmware 6.0 I cannot find the first layer calibration menu setting anymore, simply gone. So I use the logo to adjust Z for the time being.

Here's a photo of my latest print, the color is just completely off 😁 any hints and tipps are greatly appreciated 👍

From the release notes:

Revised Control menu (MINI)

To unite the user experience across all printers with the Buddy firmware, this release brings a revised Control menu on the MINI, where all tests were moved into the Calibrations & Tests submenu together with First Layer Calibration.

Rough surface: I find PETG to be a bit less smooth than PLA. You can try to adjust the top solid infill setting in Prusaslicer under Print Settings>Advanced>Extrusion Width.

Hello fuchsr, thank you for your response. I actually found the new Calibration & Tests submenu, but all submenu items had a green check mark on the right side, so I thought this was something, that runs automatically and on error shows another symbol 🫣 in addition the test was renamed to just Calibration, and in combination with the check mark, I never would have figured out, that this is the old first layer calibration - or an active menu item. Thanks for finding that!

I will try and test some settings for the surface, thanks for the tipp 👍
