Odd issue when loading filament
Hi, something odd happens when i load filament. The print head assembly etc., moves up the Z axis but does not seem to know where to stop, so it reaches the top of the z axis and then seems to grid against itself for a short while before realizing it has reach the top and then starts to continue with the heating up and loading the filament sequence. Everything else seems to be fine. It only seems to have started to do this in the last couple of weeks. I am not sure what i need to adjust?

A video would be helpful. You may have a problem with the PINDA probe.

I believe this is normal if it powers up with the Z axis already high. When it powers up, it does not know the absolute position of anything, so it has to hit limits to figure that out. Normally it will hit the low limit with the proximity sensor and figure out it's position that way, but if you previously printed something very tall, it will try to move up a fixed amount of steps when loading filament. It will already be high off the bed, but it doesn't know that, so it hits the top limit. I believe the stepper motor driver reports that it hit a limit and they could make the grinding much shorter with a firmware improvement.
I modified the gcode to always lift the head up high after each print. My printer does the grinding thing almost every time.
You can easily check this out. Before powering down, use manual control to lower the Z axis to maybe an inch above the bed and the grinding won't happen next power up and filament load.

Hi Mark, thank you yes that seems to be the issue. Hopefully they will maybe resolve this problem with a future firmware update.
