No tension in screen

I just set up my mini tonight and it went together without a hitch, except for the screen. It works fine and I'm printing now, but the 12mm screw just couldn't get a purchase and now it just spins or falls out. The extra 20mm screw is too long, so my screen just kind of flops to the side. Is this a common issue? Is there something I can print to fix it? Otherwise I guess I just need a slightly longer m3.

Oh my bad, I thought you were talking about attaching the LCD to the case on my last reply, you're talking about attaching the complete unit to the printer. Oops. 🙃  The assembly manual online specifically states using a 20mm bolt for this.

A hint for the future; always use the online manual as it's always the most up to date and includes comments and tips other users come up with during their assembly.

RE: No tension in screen

You can try printing a new LCD housing for it. Maybe the holes in the supplied one is a bit too open or you accidentally pulled it out. The screws should cut their own thread, so you have to be careful. Prusa started to upload the STLs on their profile on prusaprinters, the mini files are found here: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/57214-original-prusa-mini-printable-parts

Try printing a new one from PETG and have a go.

I think I know, I don’t think I know. I don’t think I think I know, I don’t think I think.

RE: No tension in screen

I just received my mini+ too. I had the same problem with the LCD housing. I was able to find some washers (about 2mm thk total) and used the 20mm screw. That worked well for me.

I also have a problem with the foam feet. The 4 that sit under the heatbed  are ok but the 1 on the bottom of the z axis support is about 1 mm short. It might have something to do with the bottom part on the z axis having a slot cut into it for the foam foot to fit in. My unit rocks like a teeter totter unless I put a shim 1mm under the foot on the z axis. Could you check the foam feet and let me know if all 5 sit flat at the same time.

I had the same issue.  I used the M3x20 screw instead of the M3x12 and it is very tight and difficult to screw in the last few turns, but it does seem to work.

The included (printed) literature I think is outdated and shows a 3D Printed part instead of the injection-moulded plastic one that is on the newer machines.

RE: No tension in screen

I just set up my new mini+ last night and had the exact same issue: manual mentioned a 12mm screw, the kit had 2 x 20mm screws. The 12mm (there was a spare in the spares bag) couldn't get purchase and the 20mm bottomed out before the display was tight.

I attached it with an m3x16 screw instead.

Recommend using a dab of lube on the M3x20 bolt to make driving it a bit easier
