Is my Prusa Mini Possessed?

I initially had great success with my Mini. We were getting along fine for 3-4 months and printed a multitude of successful items.  Then all of a sudden it became possessed.  When I use the standard prusa nozzle height model which is in the calibration menu, the print come out well. This leads me to believe that the nozzle height is OK.

Thinks i have tried:

  • When i try to print something else, the item come out as if one of the axis is well out of alignment.
  • I've tried printing several different models with the same result.
  • I've updated to the latest firmware.

Things i have not tried:

  • Calling the local priest to exorcise the machine
  • shouting at it.

Your nozzle may have worn a little.  The first layer 'Z' calibration is too high, you need more squish.

At the end of the calibration you are aiming to print a postage stamp sized, single layer *sheet*. It should be possible to peel it off in one and fold it without the threads seperating. If it breaks into lines it is too high, not squished enough. If it is a single sheet but with wavy lines or drag marks on it you are too low.

Give the build sheet a thorough wash with dish detergent (Dawn/Fairy) and plenty of HOT water.  Dry with a fresh paper towel, and try again.

If problems persist run a first layer 'Z' calibration and show us the result *on the print sheet.*

I have been cleaning the bed with isopropyl alchohol but on this occasion I cleaned with fairy liquid. Still the same result unfortunately.

RE: Is my Prusa Mini Possessed?

Has your mini been hanging out with an MMU2S?

If you move the print so that you are inside the current print area, does it work?  My Mini doesn’t like printing near the edges, but it looks like your perimiter is OK, but not great.

I set for only one loop around.  I think doing 3 layer loops around is silly.   One loop shows the print bed is OK to use, I have ZERO understanding why you would add more loops.  Get that first layer down, smack it down with the second layer.

What filament?

RE: Is my Prusa Mini Possessed?

Thank you all so much for your assistance so far and apologies for the lengthy delay in responding, I have been away on holiday/vacation depending on where you're reading from.

I have lowered the height of the Z axess significantly to somewhere around -1.9mm and I am having some more success with the bed levelling prints available on printables.  Now i seem to be having an issue when I print something more than just one line.  Do you guys think that its simply a bed adhesion issue or something else?

I'll run through the axis level troubleshooting guide tonight.

@ MileHigh3Der f you hadnt guessed already, I'm quite new to this - I had to gooogle MMU2S and it's not something that I have bought.

Bed levelling coming out OK:

Bottom Right corner not quite working

The mess when i tried to print the very useful reusable ratchet/cable tie thingy that i have previously managed to print before the machine seemed to go wonky.
