how tight should the belts be?

Anyone has a method of tightening belts which doesn't really on the very subjective "deep bass sound" method?

I think I've got the Y axis belt tightened correctly, to the point where it makes a bass sound when plucked, but the actual range in which the belt makes that sound is rather big. You can tighten it more and it's still bass-y, just different to what it was before, so I'm looking for another method to confirm if the belt is tight enough. Should it be possible to squeeze the belt in the very middle and make the top / bottom parts touch without much effort, or should there be a lot of resistance?

Also, on my Mini, the belt in the X axis just doesn't pluck at all regardless of how tight the belt is, it just makes a dead thud like sound (this is both the top and bottom section). I think this is due to the fact that there's no "resonance box" so the sound comes out flat, so the whole plucking method is rather useless here.

Prusa released a belt tensioner print, which is quite easy to use. Just put it on the belt and the indicator will tell, whether to tighten any further:

Be careful. I made the beginner's mistake of overtigthening the X axis while trying to improve the XZ levelness. Some teeth of the belt got flattened. From now on I will stay more on the loose side (where it's fairly easy to push together in the middle).

I think it can't vibrate as freely, because of its different fixation style.
