First Print on PETG - how did I do?
After some z-cal and setting up bed profiles and such, I did my first test print using PETG. There are whiskers here and there, and it's not as crisp as PLA, but I'm not really sure what my expectations should be. Is this "pretty good" or with tuning should I expect better? Feedback welcome!
This is on Protopasta PETG clear, using the Generic PETG filament profile, and "0.15mm STRUCTURAL" print settings, so everything is fairly straight forward/defaults. I do notice that the temps on the filament spool are a bit lower than these defaults (10-30c), but after some reading on how to get better results with PETG that seems to be intentional. I'm not unhappy with the print but curious if I should expect better with some futzing with settings.
RE: First Print on PETG - how did I do?
No offence but that looks awful. Since you said you printed with structural, are you using a MK4S?. I print PETG all the time on my MK4S and get way better results. The speeds for Structural are way too fast for me. I usually print much slower(40mm/s) and at the top temp(250) of the filament. PLA prints better then PETG but not by much.

Cool, thanks for the perspective it's what I'm looking for.... really don't have a baseline on which to judge it.
This was on a mini+. I'll try to slow it down and see how it goes.

It may be that there is moisture in your filament as well
RE: First Print on PETG - how did I do?
It's possible, but it was delivered as a sealed spool just a few days ago. I'll fiddle with some settings first, and if no joy I'll try the oven trick.
RE: First Print on PETG - how did I do?
- the fact the filament comes in the sealed bag does not mean it is dry.
- try to use profile for that filament or try to print temperature tower to see which temperature looks the best
- try printing something else like https://www.printables.com/model/367266-50-reduced-print-time-and-plastic-separate-models- for fine tuning
0.15 is a bit thin, I'd try 0.20, I printed quite a lot of transparent PETG and I get the feeling my prints looked way better.
