RE: First layer question

This is what my first layer looks like.  Same z adhustment so not sure why it is going bad as it gets closer to center of build plate.

RE: First layer question

I never have much luck gauging what's going on with pictures. What I suggest for using Jeff Jordan's "Life Adjust" approach (the square print like you're using) is to start high. With Live-Z set to near-zero, start lowering it (making Live-Z more negative) in large increments (e.g., 0.1mm) until the filament starts to adhere to the bed, then slow down as the lines start to stick. When you've got it right, you should be able to poke at a line without it popping loose. As the lines start to fill in and the gaps disappear around the edges, work down in smaller (0.02mm) increments until it starts to look rough, then come back up.

Be sure your bed is clean before starting. I strongly recommend the "Dunk with Dawn" wash before doing Live-Z to make sure poor adhesion isn't throwing your results off.

If you do all this and are still getting odd results, there might be some printer adjustment necessary. I'd eliminate the basics first though.

Yes, this was the pattern for Jeff Jordan’s “Life Adjust”.  I didn’t really adjust it during the print, and it got different results(worse) as it got closer to the center of the bed.  I also used some dawn dish soap to clean the bed.  I’ve been using some really high (-1.7 to -1,9) to get prints to be successful, but that doesn’t even seem to be working 100% of the time.  I guess I need to call tech support since I’m running out of things to try.

That's a good place to start. You paid for a Prusa, so take advantage of it. They may have some tips I'm unaware of.

I've generated some other test prints for several printers (including the Mk3) that might be useful.

Do report back with your results. Good luck!
