First Layer Calibration Producing Weird Results after a successful First Print

This is my first time 3d printing so please forgive my minimum knowledge and terminology of things.

I received my Mini Kit couple days ago assembled everything as the manual outlined. Ran the First layer calibration without a problem and printed my first print all fine.

I turned off the printer after it cooled down for the night, and early in the morning I fired it up again and started to print again.

This time my first layer seemed like bunch of beads connected with a string, so I stopped the print and ran the first calibration again and these are the results I'm getting since 2 days ago.

The original Z value used was around 0.4mm but now it seems like I need to go as far as 1.7mm to have the slimmest chance of it sticking. I tried cleaning the surface with Isopropanol and warm water + soap, but nothing seems to help.

These are the things that I tried so far.

- Checked the X skew-ness as the knowledge forum suggested

- Clean the plate very thoroughly

- Re-seated the MINDA probe height using a 0.7mm gift card (measured with a caliper)

- Tried with the Prusament filament that came with the kit

Could someone please help with pointing in the right direction to solve this? It is super frustrating since the first print looked very decent and nothing was touched overnight, yet it now is behaving like moving garbage..

I have included what it does during first layer calibration videos for reference. Any help would be appreciated!

Do you have another filament to try?

Yes I did try two different filaments.

The blue one is the one that I got from Amazon and had success printing. Then started to fail. After I used the prusament filament sample that came with the kit that didn't work at all.

It could be an issue with the Prusament. I have had to reset my Z after some filaments.

I'll try with a different filament thanks for the suggestion. Also I'm trying to apply some glue maybe on the bed. I heard some success stories with using glue.

I'm not too sure if it is a "non-adhesion' to bed issue, or my Z somehow decalibrated or shifted after the first successful print.

Your first layer is way off - and yet it must have been good originally or your first print would have failed.

I suspect that some part of your assembly has slipped; perhaps something wasn't fully home or not tight enough and the vibration of the first print slowly shook it out of, or into, place.

Go back over the process and make sure everything is snug then recalibrate.

Avoid the glue, get everything dialled in first and reserve the glue for filaments that need it.

Cheerio,

Thanks for the suggestion! I think you might be right. I'll skip the glue and maybe just take apart several key areas and re-build. Hopefully that would just make the problem disappear.

I finally found some time to work on the printer and I think the issue is now fixed.

The problem ended up being that the hot end wasn't pushed in all the way and there was some gap in the head preventing the filament to come out smoothly. After un-doing the hot end and pushing it up all the way and re-seating the MINDA sensor seems to have fixed it.

It is a bit disappointing to see that the one part that came pre-assembled in the kit is the part that is causing issues. Maybe if the thing was not pre-assembled from the beginning I wouldn't have assumed that it would be good.

I had this happen after 7 or 8 large successful prints. Started getting a lot of under-extrusion and a grinding sound from the extruder as it ground down the filament trying to push it into the hotend. I took apart and reassembled the hotend last night and now I'm back to great quality prints.
