First layer and z-adjust

I’m going slightly crackers here.  What with extruded clicking, SPINDA set way too low (needing to use -1.8 to get anywhere), jams at the extruder and at the hot end.

Although I've managed to produce a pretty good Benchy, the first layer calibration is driving me crackers.

And I think that I’ve just managed to gouge lines in BOTH sides of my steel sheet now, trying to adjust the Z-axis to the point where a print will adhere to the bed and not to my nozzle.

I’ve used about half a pint of IPA, so that's not been the problem.  Could be anything else though.

****ing thing is this close to going out of the window.

I'd post pictures, but if there’s a way to post direct from the iPad’s gallery I can’t see it (unlike every other forum I use), and I really cannot face transferring my pics from one device to another right now.

Moot point, as right now there is sod all coming out of the nozzle.  Extruder's not clicking, the gears are going round, but chuff all filament is coming out the hot end.

Is tonight going to be the second night in a row of buggering about with this thing until midnight?
