First few mm of new line not sticking to bed

Hey all,

I got a problem with printing which started yesterday. On the first layer of my prints, if a new line is started, the first few mm are not sticking to the bed and is instead folded over itself (see picture in the front, the back part is where I cancled the print)

This happens with the purge line, the skirt and the start of the print (you can see a missing line next to the infill part).

My current configuration:

  • Prusa Mini+
  • Prusament Lipstick Red PLA
  • -0.800 Z offset
  • 0.6 mm Nozzle
  • Prusament PLA settings Slic3r

With this config I already printed several things with no problems. I just stopped working after switching from Prusament black PLA to Prusament lime PLA. With the green one the nozzle got caught at the bent over part and ripped the corner of the print from the bed. Since then I tried mutliple things as suggested in the forum.

Things I tried:

  • Switched filament (green, red, black)
  • Cleaning the bed with 96% alcohol
  • Cleaning the bed with soap and alcohol
  • Adjusting Z from -0.750 to -0.880

I am pretty much out of ideas. The only thing I haven't tried is acetone which I currently don't have at home. I don't understand why it is only the first few mm which are not sticking to the surface, everything else looks pretty good.

Greetings

Floh

Can you post both sides of your first layer calibration square/rectangle?

Can you post both sides of your first layer calibration square/rectangle?

Do you mean the underside after peeling it off the bed or just from another angle?

Here is a fully printed calibration square. Same problem, but more pictures.

Also there is quiet some buildup of PLA on nozzle which gets there when the nozzle is moving over the part which is standing up

I changed the live Z to -0.840 and redid the square (check previous post for -0.800 square). This prevents that the start of the line does the overlap but you can see in the bottom left and right corner there are small gaps in which the extrusion is missing. Is this normal behaviour?

It looks from your photo that you could still go a bit lower (more negative z) and then those corners will fill in better.

I increased the the live z now to -0.850 and now it does work like 95% of the time.

The purge line still gets bent over at the end, but most of the time the print still works. I never had any problems with my 0.4mm nozzle. Maybe it's a problem with 0.6mm nozzles. I will try to run a few more tests with higher live z. Are there any risks of going to close with the nozzle to the bed? I know you can scratch up the surface, but are there any other problems I could cause?

Bring the nozzle down in small increments. Going low will eventually give you extrusions so flat they will be transparent and/or come out as dotted lines and that is your warning that you approaching digging into the bed.
