Door handle replacement
My other printers are all "color-coded", ie they have custom parts in different colors and are named accordingly.
But on the Core One the door handle is (a) metal and (b) apparently attached by some adhesive strip.
Easy enough to model a replacement handle (it's not included in the printable parts on Printables) but I'm not sure how strong the adhesive is and if the thin acrylic door will survive pulling the handle off.
Has anyone tried that--and lived to tell the tale?

RE:
There is two holes on the acrylic door and on the handle too. I fixe the original handle with screw because i failed to fix it straight with the adhesive.
You can use the two holes to use custom handles, but if you use plastic, the magnets will no longer hold the door, even if the hinge are strong enought to hold the door closed.
RE: Door handle replacement
I haven't, but warming it with a heat gun or hair dryer will help. If it won't pull off cold . I've done this to remove badging from cars before.
The hard part would be removing the adhesive if it doesn't come off with the handle. Goo Gone or a bug and tar remover for cars is usually my go-to for this, but you'll have to be careful to not put swirl marks in the acrylic as it's super soft. Even just cleaning it with a microfiber leaves swirl marks. I know because the acrylic on my other enclosures have marks because they get foggy from the plastic fumes and cleaning them even with an acrylic safe cleaner and a new microfiber towel still scratches them.
RE: Door handle replacement
If the handle is securely stuck on, I would leave it alone. That adhesive tape is really strong and stubborn. And you want to be careful with heat as well as solvents in view of the acrylic door pane.
When I built my kit, I managed to slightly misplace the handle when sticking it on. (Messing up the very last assembly step, duh...) I noticed right away and tried to pull the tape off again before I had even pressed it on. But to no avail -- the foam tape preferred to tear apart in the middle, leaving its sticky residue on both, the handle and the acrylic. Took me ages to clean it up again.
RE:
An alternate way to skin this particular cat is to model and print handle covers that either slip on to the touchable part of the handle or glue/tape to the visible surface of the handle.
Or use your favorite rattle can brand to paint the visible surface of the handle (with appropriate masking where you don't want paint overspray and possible light sanding of the existing paint to provide the new paint a mechanical grip). You probably want to remove the door first to reduce the amount of masking required. Check the Prusa instructions for moving the door hinges to the opposite side to see how to remove the door.

Huh, I admit that didn't even occur to me… Don't know if it's possible to design a cutout for a piece of metal/magnet into it, or maybe order custom metal handles in different colors from SendCutSend. I don't know their pricing for steel, have only used them for custom aluminum projects.

That may well be the simplest solution, in particular as my next Core One's are conversion kits so the handle isn't even installed yet.

I'd think you could just embed some magnets in it.
RE: Door handle replacement
Or use Prusament Magnetite PETG where magnets meet. 🙂
RE: Door handle replacement
FFS spray paint it already.

LOVE that idea! But for that price tag, plus tariff's thanks to that (insert your favorite swear word) dude in the White House (and add the unpredictability of international delivery in these crazy days), I can buy a crate of spray paint. But then again, I may never receive my upgrade kits, so maybe it's all moot.

RE: Door handle replacement
While your at it, you could also make a drawing of the handle and share it to me so I can make a new one in the metal factory I'm working at and powder coat it in the color I want 😉 (would like to do this before the Mk4 to core one upgrade arrives)
RE: Door handle replacement
If all you have is an FDM printer, everything looks like a 3D print. 😛
Yeah, I do the same thing and was hoping to get a laugh. Anyway, we all have lots of tools and methods at our disposal, so sometimes it’s good to be reminded.
Actually, Plasti Dip spray might be ideal for this. Nice tough surface in whatever color, and easily removable in case one wants to revert to stock. Also it’s super easy to touch up if it gets damaged. Same reasons people plastidip their cars, but way easier to do a door handle 🙂
RE: Door handle replacement
I ended up removing the door, masking the acrylic, and spray painting the handle. As much as I loved the idea of Plastidip, a bottle would have been enough for dozens of doors and it was 3 times as expensive as regular spray paint.

RE: Door handle replacement
Good ideas, I will probably throw some black plasti dip on the handle, ive yet to install the door in my kit build and that orange colour is not something I really like 🙂
RE: Door handle replacement
Just put the printer together, matte black plasti dip on the handle, makes it a but more professional looking:)
RE: Door handle replacement
A matter of taste, I guess. I quite like Prusa's more restrained use of orange (compared to the older printers). And it seems to follow a logic, at least to some extent -- using the orange accent color to highlight user interaction points. Having said that, my encoder knob is still black, and will probably remain so even if that contradicts the color logic...

Nice! They've also got some metallic spray plasti dip eye candy that I've been eyeing up. I gotta get the C1 working right first though.

Prusa seems to be following a similar color design concept with the CORE One that my Ford Maverick does. The orange flashes of color are touch points. On the Mav the orange is on the vent direction handles, the door handles, etc. I followed this through when getting my bed spray coated and had it done in orange. Because, what is the biggest touch point of a pickup truck other than the bed itself.
