Replacing Prusa Mini Heater Cartridge
Waiting for my Prusa Mini heater cartridge to arrive. My printer could not keep temperature after a 2 day print with PETG. I hope the cartridge arrives with the proper size wrench to remove the blown cartridge. I don't even know what size it is. I'm positive it was not in included in the assembly kit. Does anyone know what size it is?

I believe it's 2mm.
My heater cartridge failed completely on the second print, but if the heater apparently fails to maintain a temperature, it could also be a problem with the thermistor.

Did you try putting a silicone sock on it? I wouldn't expect your replacement cartridge to keep up either

I think the new heater cartridge will do the trick. I had well over 130 hours on the printer. All of the prints were excellent. My problem was printing PETG for 48 hours straight. Prior to that my printer kept a steady temperature. Today I tried bringing the temperature up to 280c. The printer could not maintain the temperature and after a few minutes fluctuations were as much as 12 degrees. I think a “real” E3D heater cartridge should get me up and running.

I ordered both just incase. I have family that are waiting for reusable masks. I think they used an off brand for the initial build and supply genuine E3D for replacements.

I've never heard of Prusa using knockoff e3d parts. e3d makes Prusa's hot end to their specification which is based off the v6 design. Highly doubt Josef would get a 3rd party brand since that relationship has been going on for many years.

For what it's worth, my Prusa MK3S stock heater cartridge is etched with, "E3D-24V-40W" in a serif font, while my Mini stock heater cartridge just has, "24V40W" in a sans font. So...???

Heater cartridge replaced. I'm getting the same temperature fluctuation. It's got the be the thermistor after all. BTW, neither the old or new heater say E3D on them.

Check where your hotend fan shroud is pointing. If it's on the block, the heater cartridge will have trouble keeping up
Check your slicer settings and double check that the fan speed is ~30% for petg.
Also, put a silicone sock on it. I can almost guarantee it will help. Do a PID tune on the hotend after installation.

E3D socks fits the mini heatblock but not as snuggly as the one provided by @lichtjaeger in the link above so its better to use those ones.
