Thanks both!
I meant the Mini (x) rods.

But is the x-axis still 18cm? Seems like the carriage can move less when it's wider.

Yeah, you'll still have a bit more over 18cm, the rods are 28cm. You might need those cylinders @Tomson mentioned to make sure the rods don't move/reach the end, however you could do that with longer screws (that push into the x-axis rods).

RE:

i -think- i printed all of the parts, including the Mk3 extruder from @Tomson. This was a bit of a 3d puzzle, but got it put together. Miss a few m3x10 bolts which are ordered.

I have one question though: How does the filemant loading work with the direct drive?
When i change filament, it loads quite some filament at high speed. Can this be turned off?
I can ofcourse just preheat and the push the filament through.

You can change the load and unload distance, but it cannot be saved between reboots. What I did was to add that change to the start gcode of my every print + also created a fake print setup.gcode that I manually ran after each reboot, I had multiple settings stored there, such as the load/unload distance, motor current fort sherpa extruder, pressure advance value. I'll look for my file and post it here (I no longer need it as I'm running Klipper now)

it looks like this:

M92 E882 ; set extruder steps/mm
M603 L30 U10 ; set load/unload filament length
M906 T0 E280 ; set the current for the extruder motor
M900 K0.07 ; set linear advance

The entire file (setup.gcode - includes a thumbnail)

RE: Prusa Bear Mini Mk3s

Thanks!

One more question: do the original mini y and x belts fit? I ordered some extra, but poor quality.
I read somewhere i need longer ones.

(still hard to search in this subforum)

I think you need longer ones, did not try with the orginals, but I think they're a bit short... I just bought some new ones

I Just reprinted the Mk3 extruder, this time the R6, mirrored.
I noticed the inverted fs-lever doesn't fit very well.
I have created an inverted lever before, for the "Dual Gear Extuder" (bowden). Will try to fix this for this extruder.

@adrian-dobre I just tested the M603 and this works fine in my (still) stock mini. Thanks!

How does the z-hop work when the motors are upside down? does that still work?

It works as expected. If you think about it, the motors are actually in the "correct" orientation, it was upside down on the original mini.

Just pay attention to the wiring (there is a schema somewhere around here) and everything should work out of the box 🙂

So i started my build.
Still no 2nd motor and belts yet, but belt arriving tomorrow.

Will continue with the Mk3 R6 mirrored extruder. Made a few changes to the filament sensor so it works in reverse.

Feels incredibly sturdy already!

RE: Prusa Bear Mini Mk3s

Looking good! Yeah, the frame is rock solid.

The most important thing that it permanently fixed for me was the fact that I was unable to get the x-axis perfectly level with the bed. Now, with 2 z-axis, that's no longer an issue 🙂

And of course you can bump up speeds and all - I constantly print with 100-150mm/s @3500mm/s^2 (with klipper and input shaper) with no issues. Although I saw people claiming to print with the original frame with 400mm/s@15000mm/s^2 accel .

I never got close to that on my setup. I could get 160mm/s @4500mm/s^2, after that I was getting layer shifts. This could be due to my specific setup/tolerances. If everything runs extremly smooth/is perfectly aligned, it might be possible.

Good luck!

For me the most important reason was also the x-axis. When i check my bedlevel in octoprint, the bedlevel constantly changed over time (although i got good prints). I don't print that much, so i want it to be ready whenever i want to print something without to worry about the bedlevel. This consistancy is more important to me than print speeds.

I saw there is a custom printer profile for prusaslicer, which seems derived from a Mk3 profile. Do i have to use this? or can i still use the original Mini profile? I could not find a description about this profile. I saw some of the start gcode is changed, but haven't looked in detail.

I did not use it, so I can't give feedback, but given that a lot of people used it, it's probably fine.
I used the standard Prusa Mini profile with custom start/end gcode for my specific setup: Sherpa Mini Extruder + Revo hotend (current for stepper, steps/mm, pressure advance, load/unload distance, retract on print finished (for cold revo swap)) + custom retraction settings (bowden vs direct drive).

When setting up the profile, remember to also check the filament overrides, some have custom start/end gcode

RE:

I also only print occassionally, so reliability is a must:) as I don't want to tinker every time I want something.

That's the reason I don't push it that much; I noticed the 100-150mm/[email protected] mm/s^2 accel give me reliable results every time with no noticeable drop in quality, so I use that;

RE:

Thanks for the tips so far.
I think about using the Mini profile, since i use Octoprint a derived quite a few of the original one.
Will add the filament change in Octoprint (when printer connects) and in the printer gcode.

The status so far (still waiting on motor)
Finishing mounting the extruder and cables. All belts are done.

Most electronics seem to work (except z ofcourse)

But i just discovered that the middle back y screw is hitting the y-motor-mount...

any ideas?

Can you add a picture? Make sure you used the smaller (special)  y-rod holder that allows pushing the motor a bit more to the right.
