E3D Thermocouple
I recently installed the Slice Engineering hotend and I’ve been reading around and came across the product from E3D. Know I may be confused but it reads as if it lets you bypass the stock temp written into the firmware. Is this possible, or am I reading it wrong?

It doesn't allow you to bypass the firmware max temp rather it is able to reliably read higher temperatures than thermistors and thus make it safe to increase the max temperature in firmware. Obviously you need to reflash your printer. E3D has copious installation information.

Which product is that?
If it just says that the hotend prints or supports temperatures of "up to 450 degrees" it does not necessarily mean rest of the printer will support such high temperatures. There are limitations not only in firmware, but also power supply, electronics, materials printer is made of etc. It just means that the hotend itself is capable of being heated high enough and has enough thermal output to melt the plastic at that temperature, it will not melt or emit toxic substances.
Unless it means temperature sensor always displays lower temperature than it really is.

My bad, it’s the Mosquito which is rated at 500c. The rest of the printer is fine to handle such temps. It has proper cooling, ABS adapted, etc. I’d just need the thermocouple for the thermistor to read the higher temps and I’d flash firmware once it’s warranty falls off.

Justin,
Buy a SE high temp thermistor and cartridge. You will get to 450 with that. You just have to update the firmware.

Slice Engineering. It does require that you update the thermistor or temperature table.
