Wipe tower printing in mid-air

Print job set up for 2 color on my 5-head XL, wipe tower enabled, first color lays down perfect, wipe tower begun nicely. Then it falls apart after that, the bed drops down a bit, the second extruder is deployed, heads over to the wipe tower, starts extruding, with out the bed returning up to print level. as soon as the wipe tower sequence is finished, the bed raises and the second color prints. There is loose "string" floating around now which now is a problem, of course.

In the slicer, it looks like it is going to work correctly.  I tried re-slicing using different settings, and don't understand what the cause could be.  Any other time I have used the wipe tower with multiple extruders/colors, I had no problems.

Has anybody encountered this before and  have any notion why and/or how to cure this?

so to answer my own question, I shut down Prusa slicer, restarted it, re-sliced my little two-colour project, and it printed fine. So I think Prusa Slicer was just "messed up" and restarting it sorted out the issue.
