When running PrusaSlicer 2.8.1 via flatpak, the application can't see /mnt

Hello,

As advised, I moved to flatpak for running PrusaSlicer. (Downloaded as explained in the download page, and setup as instructed).

Now I wanted to import my configuration from my previous PrusaSlicer, mounted in a remote disk (/mnt/pacman/... ) but the file-explorer launched when using File -> Import -> Import Config Bundle, does not allow me to select or even view the content of /mnt on my Ubuntu linux machine.

I want to denote that running the old AppImage (PrusaSlicer-2.7.4+linux-x64-GTK3-202404050928.AppImage) without any special permissions allows me to access the /mnt directory, therefore I can load/save configuration files and models from that remote disk.

Any hint how this is possible using the flatpak PrusaSlicer application?

Thanks in advance.

Have a look at this link, perhaps it has a solution for you: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1086529/how-to-give-a-flatpak-app-access-to-a-directory

Asking uncle google, I found Flaseal, that allowed me to tailor access. and the steps were:

  1. install Flatseal from flathub in the same manner than installing PrusaSlicer.
  2. After install, run Flatseal
  3. Select Prusa Slicer and the directory /mnt in the Filesystem section, by /mnt in the Other files.

Hope this helps, but in my honest opinion, we should not need 3rd party configuration tools for running PrusaSlicer in Linux.

this is generally a limitation of the encapsulation of the app (in this case a Flatpak), and the fact that you have items in different location than the home directory. It is inevitable because people can have various mount points in different places, and it really ends in using flatseal to adjust existing flatpaked app to make it work.

See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.

Yes, this is what solved the problem.. In my honest opinion, for non-IT users this should be setup by the installer.
(That is, install Flatseal and run the side effect)
Thanks anyway 🙂
