What do the dimensions mean ??

I recently did a bit of an overhaul on my CoreXY - not a Prusa (but I do have a Mk4S and MMU3) - and I use PrusaSlicer pretty exclusively and this is where my fun starts - in the bottom left corner PrusaSlicer reports the print dimensions - but they're incorrect or do not mean what I think they do.

Scenario : Create a calibration cube 20mm square  in Fusion 360 - send it to PrusaSlicer, the slicer reports that it is 20.5x20.5x21 (XYZ respective)

Actual print on CoreXY - sizes are 20.09x20.08x19.98

Actual print on Mk4S - sizes are 19.98x20.01x19.95

all XYZ and both done using Prusament PETG

So the slicers are lying and it isn't specific to PrusaSlicer, Cura and Simplify3D all report the wrong dimension aka 20.5x20.5x21 and yet the resultant prints are as per Fusion 360 give or take a few hundredths that I am not going to fuss over

Are the slicers lying or do the numbers mean something else

RE: What do the dimensions mean ??

I've never seen slicer change dimensions on an imported object.

So created a 20x20x20 cube in Fusion, saved as mesh with medium resolution settings:

Then loaded it into Prusaslicer:

Still 20x20x20, as expected.

I would double check if the object is Fusion truly has the dimensions you expect.

I get the same exact sizes if I create and export from Blender too so I dont think the Slicer is doing anything to resize.

The OP said he sent it to PS from Fusion.  Isn't the sending a 3mf format rather than the mesh you were using ?  (Don't use Fusion so cant check) but I wonder if the 3mf contains something the pure mesh doesn't, like distance from an origin for example.

Checking your fusion settings as suggested sounds like a good start.

The object absolutely does have the correct dimensions as per the ultimate prints testament. The final print agrees with Fusion 360 as I stated in the data presented - and the title - does the slicer lie - because it produces exactly what was drawn and not what the quoted dimensions in the slicer are. It is probably something in the Fusion 360 export that isn't actually used for anything or the actual prints would be bad.

Not sure how to capture the file before the slicer gets it and not inclined to waste much time on doing so - my prints are fine.

f the 3mf contains something the pure mesh doesn't

For the fun of it, I exported a 20x20x20 cube from Fusion as a 3mf, and I used the Print directly to Prusaslicer tool, in each case it came out exactly 20x20x20.

My last idea: The cube is not sitting totally flat. Which would make the dimensions in slicer be slightly off but if printed look fine.

Well I have proven myself to not be as observant as I thought ...

On the 20mm cube I have letters embossed so I know which way around the cube was oriented on the bed plate - and guess what the cube measures across those embossed letters ....

In case anyone else gets bit by this...

If you rotate the cube, the dimensions in the "World Coordinates" view will change as well.

If you select "Object Coordinates" then you get the original object dimensions.

Not the case in this instance, but it might trip up people...
