specific color/extruder for infill, prusaslicer ignores my settings
Hello everyone,
I have a Prusa5XL ...
I have a large object that I painted in the slicer. The filament that is primarily used is expensive, and I would like to force the slicer to use a plain material for the infill (and preferrably most other invisible parts) of the object.
However, the slicer ignores all my wishes.
I assigned the correct extruder in the settings, and also tried using a modifier and assigned the specific extruder to it. However, it will only apply the color to parts of the modifier that are visible from the outside. If I change the extruder I specified for infill, no change at all. It will just use the color that I used for painting from the outside to all inner parts as well.
What can I do? I do not want to waste so much expensive filament on invisible parts ...
RE: specific color/extruder for infill, prusaslicer ignores my settings
There's a hierarchy to the different methods to "color a model"/"choose extruders for things" when those different methods overlap:
Painter tool > modifiers > specified extruder in the model list > extruders specified in Print Settings while model list extruder is set to Default
So if you've specified an extruder than your 'infil extruder' setting is moot. If you've fully painted a model a color then all other extruder settings are moot where they overlap with the painted areas.
Something you can fiddle with is the "Maximum width of a segmented region" parameter so that the painted color area doesn't go as deep into the model. This way other settings can get put into play.
Sometimes you have to split up your project into different 3mf's to get things printed in a specific way.

Thanks a lot, I will give it a try!
