Slow interface?
I'm new here, and was just wondering if Mac PrusaSlicer is generally very laggy with every action. I see the rainbow spinner with nearly every action. The entire interface seems to go into a wait state every time I do anything. It's usually a second or two, but can be more. I'm trying the latest 2.2 beta, and I have a fairly well appointed i7 Mac with plenty of memory and SSD drives. I'm hoping to replace Simplify3D with this eventually.

RE: Slow interface?
Actually version 2.1 release version seems even worse. 🧐 🤔

RE: Slow interface?
Not having that issue running Mojave on a 16GB i5 iMac 5K. Slicing slows as more detailed parts are added, but all other moves are smooth.

RE: Slow interface?
I don't have experienced such lags on my MacMini (Early 2009, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM, El captain) though my models are more or less simple.

I'm going too try purging my preferences completely.

RE: Slow interface?
So far preference purge has not appeared to help much with the beta. And I am totally unable to load any filament presets. Despite running the wizard none appear in the interface to be selected. I'm doing a benchy print test now to see if this appears to slice any better than S3D.

RE: Slow interface?
You may have "Background Processing" turned on. I usually run with that turned on, but when working on complicated modifications and/or lots of objects on the build plate I turn it off. Basically what it does is start slicing every time you change a setting or some geometry. It should cancel the current slice operation if you make a change before it is done slicing, but on complicated slices it might take a second or two to catch up with what you are doing, introducing lag.
I should probably add a feature request to have that as an easily accessible toggle on the main interface in addition to having it buried in the preferences window.

No, background is off, and I'm seeing the spinner with the build plate empty. I was planning to try background later.

RE: Slow interface?
Still an issue. I’m going to need to cancel.
RE: Slow interface?
New here, but finding same thing. Abysmally slow, pretty much unuseable. Every single click results in 5-20 seconds of spinning beach ball, regardless of any operation. Menus, check boxes, doesn't matter. It's miserably slow with nothing loaded model wise and gets way worse if you actually load up a model.
This on a Mojave 10.4.6 on a MacPro Dual Hex Core 3.46 Xeon with 96GB of ram / Radeon RX 580 8GB / Solid state drive.
This machine FLIES in Rhino, even with stupidly huge projects (Like 5-6 GB Files and tens of thousands of nurbs surfaces and s0lids. It is NOT the machine. Something is seriously the hell wrong with the slicer software and it needs to be fixed as at this point it'll take longer to slice than to print, which is just wrong on every possible level.
RE: Slow interface?
Interesting that the last post was deleted. I'm seeing a trend on the YouTubes away from Prusa Slicer and Simplify 3D, and over to Cura. I guess many improvements have been made.

RE: Slow interface?
On Windows, but lag is not an issue at all with Prusa Slicer. However, I have seen a recent tendency for people to build models with sub-micron resolution and literally tens of millions of vectors (with commensurate errors) then complain about slicer performance.
RE: Slow interface?
No issues with PrusaSlicer 2.3 Alpha 2 on Mojave on a 2014 16GB i5 iMac 5K. Problems are not universal and slicing is faster than Cura on my machine. With the recent enhancements in PrusaSlicer, we're seeing a lot more converts here from non-Prusa owners. Monotonic infilll and paint on support modifiers are game changers.

RE: Slow interface?
On my older Macbook Pro 15" I have found graphics performance on sliced models is much better if I turn off retina resolution in preferences.
Preferences -> Use retina resolution for the 3d scene
RE: Slow interface?
Suffering from the same. I have upgraded three times, now running 2.4.1-rc1 and it takes seconds just to tab between fields even with no models loaded.
On Windows 11 and on a quite performing AMD desktop computer.
RE:
As an example. In an empty project and background processing is disabled.
RE: Slow interface?
Slow rendering, especially on sliced models is still an issue with Version 2.5.0.
I suspect it is due to the fact that I am using an Appimage on Linux. I will try the distro-packaged version after it gets done with downloading 1.5Gb of updates for other things.
RE: Slow interface?
@executive-quest
I see the exact same thing using 2.5.0 in Windows. It's as slow as 2.3 when slicing, when you couple that with the fact that they messed the seams up and added the "Speed Bump" that is the Arachne perimeter generator, 2.5.0 really isn't worth using.
I still use 2.4 and 2.3 the only thing in 2.5 worth having is the Pressure equalizer, not that the Arachne perimeter generator is terrible, but it should be available for special use cases definitely not as the default perimeter generator. The original perimeter generator is still superior and will remain so for sometime to come. the seam algorithm they implemented in 2.5 is the real deal killer.
RE: Slow interface?
It is the sliced preview that is slow. The 3D editor view (Ctrl-5) is fine. Specifically, it is the translucent overlay that sits over the gcode preview that is slowing down rendering. I managed to get rid of it once, by right-clicking all over the screen. Then gcode rendering was blazing-fast, like slic3r is. Until they fix that, I can use Ctrl-5 to switch back to 3D editor view.
Incidentally, Cura and kisslicer has the same problem of slow rendering with gcode preview. I tried upgrading my video drivers, switching back and forth from X11 to Wayland on Linux. No difference.
Slic3r and IdeaMaker render gcode previews just fine though, if you don't need Arachne.
RE: Slow interface?
Check out how the images are set up in Mac PrusaSlicer. Some software programs let you change the settings for speed or rendering quality. Sometimes lowering the graphics settings can make the program run faster, but the interface might look worse as a result.
