Removing Raft

I'm printing "The Incredible Bubble Straw for Kids" , by RT3D Workshop, from the Prusa Library. It's a great print, and the grandkids love it.

I picked up a hint from this project of using a raft as a 'support' to stabilize the base when printing. I didn't know you could use just a raft. I coupled that with the custom support info from "bobstro" and it works great for base of the bobble pipe. I decided to add another part, the 'bubble cup', but it doesn't need any extra supports.

Is there any way to remove the raft from only the cup part? I was looking at adding a modifier, but it doesn't seem to do the job. Any hints?

RE: Removing Raft

You shouldn't need a raft. It's a throwback to the Dark Ages of 3D printing.… before automatic bed leveling.

Instead, you can use a brim to stabilize the straw. If you only want it for the straw not the bowl, you can right click on the straw, select Add settings/Skirt and brim, and then in the right pane set the brim width to 5 mm or so.

Uses a lot less material than a raft.

Is this in version 2.3.3? I don't see any settings for skirt/brim. I may have missed it, but I tried all of the options multiple times.

tnx...

RE: Removing Raft

Print Settings > Skirt and Brim (in left column)

Also at any time you can click on the magnifying glass and do a search for a setting and you will be shown where it is located.

I've seen that, but I don't see that setting available with a right-click of the 'Add Settings' to a single piece.

Sorry, my mistake, this looks like it is only available from right-clicking the object in 2.4

No problem. I was going nuts looking for it. I'll have to look at 2.4 (Beta?).

Yes you can do this in 2.3.3 you don't need to add a modifier, bring the cup and wand in to slicer as separate parts. don't apply any support settings to the entire plate, instead right click on the wand "in expert mode" and go to add settings/ support material in the resulting menu you can add any of these settings to the wand only.

this will apply your raft and supports only to the wand object leaving the bubble cup to print fine without supports (No Beta needed) if that's your preference.

enjoy
