RE: PrusaSlicer on a tablet

There’s definitely workarounds! I currently use Shapr3D on the iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil to mess around with some personal projects, then export to Google Drive, then use a Windows system to slice. It’s doable. It’s fine. I’m not complaining, really 🙂 But it would be much nicer if I could just export directly into Slicer on the same device, then save on the SD card.

Web version would be great too.

Maybe one day I’ll get a Surface Pro instead.

RE:

You are still using a Windows system for the slicer.. so that's not a work-around for slicing on different OSes.  It's just takes so many resources to build native software for all the different platforms.. Each development system is unique and they are very complex today.. I spent years learning basic iOS design and you multiply that by all the different platforms.. Huge time expense. Fusion 360 has an iOS app, but only a viewer..

The only sane solution is to write to one architecture which is accessible by all devices.. Sun tried to do this with Java.. but it was too slow in execution. I think a cloud based execution engine with a web interface is more likely and today the speed is better .. but that still takes a bunch of resources.. I think most software is moving in that direction.. but will take time yet.

I'm old and probably far too stuck in the mud but I refuses to use software that runs on the cloud. Lose you're internet connection for a day and tell me what a great idea it is.

I know why software vendors love cloud based stuff, anything with the word subscription in it is like catnip. How can argue with constant income streams and the ability to do pretty much anything you like.

Another data point for those who may be interested.

Just for sh*ts and grins, I have a newer Dell laptop with Windoze 10 with an installation of Oracle Virtual Box with a Ubuntu VM running within it.  Last night I downloaded and installed the Linux app image for PS on the Ubuntu VM.

It ran without issues.  As might be expected, the slicing is not as snappy as it is on a native OS, but it did run acceptably well.

I do think it is possible.  I am not sure of the interest from Prusa.
