Prusaslicer imagining fake surface?

Hello,

I created a simple object with some holes / empty space (top picture), imported it to PrusaSlicer (bottom left), everything ok till here.

When I slice it, the PrusaSlicer crap creates a fake surface, adds it to the model (bottom right) and closes the empty space - wtf?

How can I make Prusasliser print the real model and not some fake objects it imaged itself? Setup is almost default, supports off.

thank you

RE: Prusaslicer imagining fake surface?

you probably have errors in the STL. in the right hand panel, do you have an orange triangle with an exclamation mark (!)
this indicates error. click the triangle to repair

you are probably right - it says "10 open edges" (unfortunately doesn't show them) and when I click to fix it, it removes the surface it has previously added.

I still don't get the background though - I viewed the .STL file, it is correct and showing exactly what Prusaslicer imported (the pic from stl viewer attached).

If I don't tell Prusaslicer to fix it, it tampers with the model and adds the fake surface during slicing. While if I tell Prusaslicer to fix it, it doesn't tamper with the model and slices it like I see it in the 3D editor view. What am I missing here?

Ok so I found the problem - the cone merged with the sloped surface, it slices ok if I move it 0.1mm (0.004") from the sloped surface. I don't know how this insanely small move could prevent it from slicing correctly, but it did. Thank you

RE: Prusaslicer imagining fake surface?

Prusa Slicer is not imagining anything.  When you have broken geometry , especially when it is not manifold with open edges then the slicer has to guess how its constructed.  Depending on the model then the guess can be right or wrong.  Even the fix routine (which is something built into Windows that PS calls via an API) can get it wrong and end up filling in the model like when its sliced.  While some types of mesh errors the slicer can easily handle, non manifold meshes are basically a slicers worst case problem.

You need to learn how to create valid mesh geometry with your modelling software.  There are several programs that can examine meshes allowing you to modify (and learn) what is wrong with them.  Mesh Mixer for example or the 3dPrint tool built into Blender.

Also go into Prusa Slicer preferences and make sure an option called Show non-manifold edges is enabled, its in the GUI section.  That will make non manifold edges appear in purple on your model when its selected on the platter.  Other things to look out for on models are darker green areas, that is often a indicator of problems with normals on a model (reversed faces). And always always look for the yellow warning triangle.
