PrusaSlicer can't be opened on MacOs 10.14.6

I am quite new to 3D printing, and, due to what I thought was a bug, deleted PrusaSlicer. Since then, if I try to open Prusaslicer it will tell me that it needs updating as Apple cannot check it for malware. If I open an older version (2.1.1 or below) it tells me that it cannot import my settings saved in a future version. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am running PrusaSlicer 2.3.1 on Mac OS 10.14.6 Mojave without problems. I have reinstalled several PrusaSlicer versions. Are you running any sort of security product?

Have you checked System Preferences->Security->General to see if it is prompting you to "open anyway"?

No, it seems to be because the slicer is signed by Apple, but not Notarized.  You can get around it by opening the applications folder, then right-clicking on the slicer. You will get the error, but if you select "open" it will open.

It might be that the Prusa folks just forgot this step with this software.

I do have System Preferences->Security & Privacy->General->Allow apps downloaded from set to App Store and identified developers. I recall I did have to open this preferences tab and select open anyway to run PrusaSlicer. Cura and ideaMaker are the same IIRC.

Yeah, I have that also.  I BELEIVE this is not that problem.  To OPEN an app. you need to allow it with that System Preferences setting as you mention.  This problem is caused by an optional added step that Apple has added to virus check applications. Basically developers have to run new applications through an Apple virus scanner. If they pass, they are considered "Notarized."  If this step is not completed, with some versions of Mac OS, an error box comes up when you first open it telling you that Apple has not virus scanned it.  You can still tell it to basically open anyway, so its not a fatal error, just a warning.

I'm puzzled as to why it works on the same OS for some and not others. I did briefly update to a newer MacOS version and had PrusaSlicer running there too.

I understand why Apple is doing things this way, but I'm sure a lot of independent developers without deep corporate pockets get tired of jumping through hoops for Apple & Microsoft, especially for open-source software that is not itself a revenue generator.

I don't know, but I just installed Slicer 2.3.1 on a different Mac running 10.15.7 and get the same error. Its tricky because if you double-click on the app. to open it, you can't, but if you right-click then go open, you can continue on even with the error/warning.
