PrusaSlicer but on different printers... different outcome?

Hey all, I've been really curious about getting myself a Prusa printer for a few years now but last year I ended up getting a Bambu lab x1c. It's great at what it does, but I find for some of the small items I make with lettering, my old slow and steady Creator Pro 2 produces a nicer look.

I've been temped to get a Prusa Mini+ to see how I get on with it and was just wondering a couple of things..

Bambu slicing software is based on PrusaSlicer, so will that mean the end product will come out roughly the same on the Mini+?

Also, can I change the filament colour midprint? say if I have a base in black, then want writing on top to be a different colour.

Thanks all

Hi Wizard,
the mini can do Change of colour by layer height.

I believe Bambu slicer is based on the Prusa fork of Slic3r. Whether Bambu slicer has profiles for Prusa Printers is another matter, and whether the profiles, if they have them, are up to date, is another question.
The Prusa mini does give good prints with Prusa slicer and doesn't share your prints with China.

I don't know how much of the Prusa UI, Bambu Slicer uses, hopefully you can make prusa slicer work for you if Bambu slicer is an issue

Hi Joan, thanks for the reply

I hear you on the China issue, the Bambu mobile app has added a ton of gamification type stuff, which reminds of what Creality do. Earn fake coins etc. They have also added it to a degree within Bambu Slicer on desktop. I understand the convenience of browsing for designs, but it definitely feels more like a monetisation ploy than to help the end user.

Bambu Studio looks pretty much identical to OrcaSlicer UI wise, I think PrusaSlicer is a bit different...

Chances are you can use Prusa slicer or Orca Slicer if Bambu doesn't give the results you want

earlier on today I Used Prusa Slicer, Simplify3d and Astroprint to look at an issue...

will come out roughly the same on the Mini+

Roughly is probably the operational word here. Identical, I'm quite sure not. Differences in printer and print profiles will make sure of that.

Having said that, I have two Minis and love them. In my hands, they've been workhorses for years. My only issue is that the thermal protection model Prusa introduced a few releases of the firmware ago doesn't play nicely with the Dragon hotend i have on the Minis, so they fail the heater check but still print fine, I just have to press an acknowledgement before each print.

Yeah I'm thinking the difference in hardware; hotend, stepper motors, the whole package could theoretically produce a different final product, even though the slicers both use the same core right? Trouble is I don't fancy spending all that money to find out they come out identical!

if you have a small test piece that, doesn't print well on the Bambu

I Suspect, if you asked nicely and shared the STL, someone with a Mini could try printing it on their mini for you. as a test piece, with little or no cost.
