PrusaSlicer 2.9.4 default value for first layer width for MK3.5 and Mk4
I recently upgraded my MK3S+ to MK3.5S and then opened up PrusaSlicer and added the MK3.5 input shaper configuration. Running a few test prints, I noticed the first layer line widths are thicker than I'm used to seeing (yes, I properly adjusted the z offset). Checking the slicer Print Settings -> Advanced -> First Layer Extrusion width, I noticed it now defaults to .5mm. This seems too high. Shouldn't it be 110% to 120% of the nozzle size/layer height? The values for a 0.6 nozzle and 0.8 nozzle seem more in line with those percentages. I haven't changed these settings, so I'm wondering if this is correct or my slicer defaults are corrupted. Thanks.

It's 0.5 for all my printers, Core One, Mk3.5, XL… Feels reasonable to me for a 0.4 mm nozzle. I can't look back so I'm not sure it has changed over time.

The extrusion for the first layer needs a little more squish than subsequent layers especially if you are using a textured print-sheet - but don't change from the default unless you have a narrow part and adhesion anxieties. I notice the first layer for a 0.6mm nozzle isn't increased, perhaps it's wide enough already.
Cheerio,

Thanks. The old MK3 default first layer width was 0.42 mm which is why I initially questioned it.

It used to be 0.45 on older profiles but they have bumped it up to 0.5 now. Probably for the reasons Diem stated. One of those things when you use the built in presets. They can be changed on you at any time without you noticing.
Its why I detached all of mine from the system ones years ago. Now I perform a manual comparison to see whats changed and only if the changes are an improvement after testing on my setup do I update my own.
