PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-rc2
Hi guys,
a second release candidate of the PrusaSlicer 2.2.0 is out, introducing improvement and bugfixes. This version is recommended to experienced users.
What is new?
This is a second release candidate of PrusaSlicer 2.2.0, following releases of 2.2.0-rc, 2.2.0-beta, 2.2.0-alpha4, non-public 2.2.0-alpha3, alpha2 and alpha1. This release candidate fixes bugs found in the previous release candidate. See the respective changelogs of the previous releases for all the new features, improvements and bugfixes in the 2.2.0 series.
Improvements with respect to PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-rc
- If a project selected from 'Recently opened projects' menu is no longer available, user is newly asked if that project should be removed from the list, while it was always being removed before. (#3646)
- A new parameter 'Max bridges on a pillar' has been added to allow more control over SLA supports geometry. (#3728)
- 'Export to SD card/Flash drive' and 'Eject SD/Flash drive' functions got their own File menu items and keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+U and Ctrl+T, respectively), and these shortcuts are also shown in the tool tips over the Plater buttons.
- A button 'Detach from system profile' has been added to detach a profile from its parent system profile. PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-alpha and newer considers a Print or Filament profile to be compatible with a Vendor Printer profile only if this Print or Filament profile is derived from a system profile of the same Vendor, or if it is independent. Removing the link to the parent system profile therefore makes that profile visible independent of the Vendor of the active Printer profile. (#3729)
Bugs fixed with respect to PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-rc
- Minor issues in translations were fixed (untranslated strings, typos, etc).
- Fixed some crashes due to errors in translations. (#3748)
- Fixed a layout issue in the right panel after changing the application language. (#3617 #3739)
- Fixed an issue, where no MMU or SLA materials were installed after upgrade from PrusaSlicer 2.2.1 to 2.2 due to renaming of the profiles (profile names were augmented with a '@' character to separate logical name from a full name).
- Fixed a crash appearing with certain resolution scaling values. (#3759)
- Many encoding issues appearing in localized application on Windows were fixed.
- OSX specific: Error dialog had wrong background color leading to unreadable text on some OSX versions. (#3775)
- Wipe info infill did not work correctly in all cases (regression error wrt. PrusaSlicer 2.2.1). (#3769)
- Empty layer detection that prevents user from exporting unprintable G-Codes was sometimes rejecting scenarios that would have printed fine. (#3765)
- Linux specific, regression wrt. PrusaSlicer 2.1.1: HTTPS support was broken in our Linux builds, which in turn broke downloading of system presets from Prusa Research. (#3768)
- Windows specific, regression wrt. PrusaSlicer 2.2.0: Some users reported weird interuptions in user interaction. While we were not able to reproduce the issue, we suspect the culprit being two new services introduced in PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-alpha: Detection of 3DConnexion USB plug / unplug events and detection of removable USB flash drive or SD card plug / unplug events. These detection tasks were performed at the user interface thread, while now they are executed in their respective background threads in PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-rc2 to hopefully fix the issue. The download link above is wrong.. it takes you to the Beta from 17 days ago.. This is the right link

RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-rc2
I have found a problem with 2.2.0.. Normally I have been able to run a 'final' release and a Beta/RC at the same time...
But once I ran 2.2.0, when i went back to 2.1.1 I was told that my config was invalid and Slicer restarts without any config.. And I had to resort to copying files from the snapshot folder to get it back.. Surely the RC should not interfere with the Final release should it?
Also, the camera seems to be broken... I know there were changes to incorporate the 3DConnexion mouse, and since i have one I am happy.. But when driving the GUI with a normal mouse, the view behavour has completetly changed.. Where as before the camera seems locked to the centre of the bed.. Now the view twists all over the place and you end up with the bed at all angles.
Is this expected?? I know there is a preference to enable "free camera" but the option doesn't appear to do much..
I am more than greatful for the 3DConnexion mouse functionality, but I am not sure I like the changes to the how the view responds to a normal mouse...
RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-rc2
Unlike the alphas and the beta, the release candidate saves its profiles into PrusaSlicer directory, which is the same directory where the previous releases of PrusaSlicer keep their profiles. If you were testing the PrusaSlicer 2.2.0 alphas or betas, your profiles from the alphas or the beta would have to be manually imported into PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-rc by exporting and importing the Config Bundle.
The RC Version use the same profiles, so you can't change back and force. That's anounced in the changelog.
Since i havn't testet it, i can't say anything to the camera problem.

@jweaver
There are 3 'flavours' of Prusa slicer, each with its own profile directories, Alpha, Beta and Release. Release also means the release candidates.
I think I commented in your other thread about the profiles but it is good practice to create a configuration bundle using File>Export>Config Bundle. This creates a backup of all the custom Print, Filament and Printer profiles that can later be imported to any version of Prusa Slicer on any machine. No need to go looking through directories and manually copying things over, hoping you got every thing.
The thing with import functions is they are usually designed to add anything in thats missing as an update path, its usual for new software to handle old versions but its also very common for old versions not to be able to handle new saved files (just look at Blender or even Microsoft Word for examples of that).

It turns out that my "camera problems" are a side effect of having a 3DMouse... Once you connect a 3DMouse the camera behavour changes and a normal mouse doesn't work the same.

Noticed that myself. I'm not a master of the 3D mouse, so not sure which I prefer.

RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-rc2
rc3 is out. But looks like it's non-public again.
RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-rc2
Nah that usually happens when they haven't gotten around to putting the built versions on yet. Usually if you give it a bit of time they get added. I'll just check back tomorrow.

RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-rc2
Has anything change with the way that 2.2.0 draws it layers..
I have printed this in 2.1 many many times with zero probems
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3653631
But I just printed it with 2.2.0 and the 'clips' on the bottom layer start to lift.
When I look at how it draws the layer (confirmed with a GCODE viewer), its entirly different.
WIth 2.1, the inner and outer perimeter is drawn first and then its filled in.. But with 2.2.0 it draws the fill first and then draws around it with the perimeters after. (Probably not explaining myself).
Its almost like 2.2.0 is doing the opposite of 2.1... Is there any obvious reason why this would happen?
RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-rc2
Wether to print the perimeters first or infill is a setting in slicer, its been in there basically forever. Its under Print Settings>Infill>Infill before perimeters (its an advanced setting so must be in advanced mode to see it). I dont think the defaults for that have been changed. One thing I have noticed that is different is on the defaults for the MK3* they have applied a 0.2mm elephants foot compensation.
Id check your settings on the project.

Cheers... i will check the settings.. i am simply using the default print profiles as i have for every release for many years....
when i get time tomorrow, i will have a play to see if i can get it to print the same as it did in previous releases.

Good call.. It wasn't the infill settings.. It was the "elephants Foot Compensation"..
When I put this back to 0mm, it draws the object as it did before.. But when I put it to default (0.2mm) it makes a bit of a mess of the first layer, laying down the perimeters and infill in an odd order.
With no elephants foot, it does Inner.. Outer.. Inner.. Outer and then the infill in one line
But with 0.2 EF, it does inner for a bit.. then some in fill.. then a bit of outer.. and so on, and finally does the remaining fill sporadically.
When you watch it with a GCODE viewer, its no suprise it won't print as the extruder is going all over the place.
I tried it with a cube and EF does not appear to make much difference.. But with this thin walled object, it doesn't look right.
I wonder if its worth raising this as an issue on GitHub or whether its expected behavour and one should just turn EF off for this kind of print?
RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-rc2
The reason I noticed it is I had a part that had some thin sections on the bed that I’ve printed before and like you I re-sliced and I had trouble with the now really thin lines. Basically the 2 perimeters had been reduced to 1 on the first layer.
RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0-rc2
I have reported the issue on Github:
https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/3840
I am not sure if its a defect or expected behavour, but it doesn't do any harm to raise this.. If you want to add your experiences, please do.
Cheers
