Prusa Slicer 2.3.0 Much Faster
Rather than a complaint or problem, I have a positive observation & a related question. I just upgraded to 2.3.0 yesterday. (A little late to the party, I know, but I've had some out-of-state family matters to attend to.) I have a self designed model that is mostly shell, but a bit of infill. I sliced & printed it last week using 2.2.x (forget which rev) & it clocked in at over 20 hours. Today I sliced it with 2.3.0 & it shows under 17 hours print time. So almost 3.5 hours improvement. All settings are identical: no supports, very little bridging, Prusament PLA, 0.20 quality presets. What speed optimization magic makes this possible?

Are the times you quote actual or estimated print time?

If you go through all the settings something will be different. The defaults have probably been updated so you wont be able to tell what easily.
Could be something as small as a tiny change in retraction, a difference in how infill is done (that was majorly reworked between 2.2 and 2.3 iirc). If you compare the actual amount of plastic used between old and new (if you output the weight to your gcode names thats easy to do) then that is a good indicator of the area that may be different.
This is one of the good/bad things about slicing using a default profile. You can never guarantee that slicing will be the same. In this case you came out ahead but in others the reverse is true.

I didn't look at the retraction & other setting details. I just used the defaults for 0.2 Quality. In both cases infill was 15%. I've since played with infill patterns & the new Grid pattern saves about 10 minutes compared to Gyroid on this model. I didn't track the filament usage, but I weighed both prints. The model that printed faster weighed 2g heavier (increasing a 209g part to 211g). That is a small change I made to the model, increasing some small features height by 0.5mm. If anything I would have expected it to increase print time.
Did some reading of the release notes, & the thing I would expect to decrease print time the most is "avoid crossing perimeters", at least on this model. The other thing could be improved acceleration & jerk calculations & control algorithms.
