Prusa Slicer 2.1.1 Slow to Open
Prusa Slicer appears to take about 60 Seconds to Open. This happens if I am not opening any .stl or .3mf. Once I am in Prusa Slicer it appears to fairly responsive.
Is this a normal?
My Machine is a newer I7 with 32 GB and SSD and am not having any performance issues with any other software.
Thanks

having the same problem with new Dell XPS15 laptop and Windows 10, with both 2.1.1 and the latest 2.2.0. I have turned off real-time scanning entirely, but this doesn't seem to speed things at all.
RE: Prusa Slicer 2.1.1 Slow to Open
Same for me : W10 Pro x64 on M.2/ 3900X, 32GB RAM. Nothing special in TaskManager : CPU,RAM, Network : all is very low usage.
I wonder me if PrusaSlicer try to reach a server or a webservice for any reason at startup and wait for an answer.
RE: Prusa Slicer 2.1.1 Slow to Open
Same here. I Have a new machine (WIN 10 PRO on a Intel NUC NUC8i7HVKVA Hades Canyon), way more powerful than my old laptop - but launching Prusa Slicer takes forever and also the UI is not that responsive. Whole experience was much better on my old laptop (WIN 10 PRO on ThinkPad T470s). Can't see any reason for that. Both run Win 10 Pro. Both are powdered by an i7. Both have 16 gigs of ram. Only difference is 2 vs 4 cores and integrated GPU vs dedicated GPU. But actually that should speed things ups...
Any ideas or solutions yet?
RE: Prusa Slicer 2.1.1 Slow to Open
Hello, anyone out there reading this post? This problem has been reported for months, with not even an acknowledgement that it is a known problem. I was under the impression that Prusa prided itself on listening to its customers.....

RE: Prusa Slicer 2.1.1 Slow to Open
I'm having a huge issue with this too, since day one i have had poor slicer performance. Simplify3d runs much smoother
Please for the love of all things Prusa help us XD.
I can't even click on settings without a massive lag and by the time i see it open it closes cause i clicked somewhere just to see if the program was responding. it doesnt show its non responsive but it certainly acts that way.
PC Specs:
win 10 pro 64 bit
i7 6600k
16gb of ram
1tb NVME SSD
RE: Prusa Slicer 2.1.1 Slow to Open
This is a user forum. We can help with common user related issues. However it looks like you guys have issues related to your specific hardware/computer setups as nearly everyone else does not have these issues.
The devs only occasionally look in here.
Bug reports need to be opened on PrusaSlicers github page. https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+sort%3Aupdated-desc
If you do a search you are likely to find several opened issues already that pertain to your problems.
General slowness in opening can happen if you have any non accessible drives or network shares.
UI issues are generally down to graphics drivers / Open GL from what I have seen. There's also the Nahimic driver/add on issue which a lot of people suffered from.
RE: Prusa Slicer 2.1.1 Slow to Open
Interesting that all posters with problems are using Win10 and some pretty high power software. I'm using an old i5 laptop with only 4GB, although it takes a while to load (10secs ish) I don't experience any of the problems described.
Maybe try disabling any and all AV and post. Also there is a bunch of sites that list useless or worst services also use something like Process Explorer to figure out where all that grunt is going.
RE: Prusa Slicer 2.1.1 Slow to Open
@towlerg
In my case, at least, the slow launch persists whether or not I have any AV enabled
RE: Prusa Slicer 2.1.1 Slow to Open
i found that changing it to start with win 7 compatibility mode makes it a bit more responsive but still slower then any other software i have used.
RE: Prusa Slicer 2.1.1 Slow to Open
@bvandyke101
How do you change it to Win7 compatibility mode?
RE: Prusa Slicer 2.1.1 Slow to Open
Right click on Prusa Slicer > Properties > Compatibility > Compatibility Mode (check out image). Just to be up front this "trick" is nothing to write home about. Whatever is causing this performance issue with windows 10 machine's, REALLY, needs to be addressed. Compatibility mode isn't the solution and has barely worked for me.

Thanks anyway.
