Possible bug in 2.6 R2 or user error? (overlapping objects on build plate)

I was printing a model and added a cylinder overlapping it.  I have done this many times in the past where the slicer will basically merge the two objects and it works fine.  I tried this in 2.6 r2 and the slicer printed BOTH objects overlapping and made a mess of the print.  The top level of the cylinder was overlapping with a top layer of part of the model and the gcode had it printing a top layer twice in the same location.  This caused the print to fail as the print head kept grinding against all that extra plastic.

Does something different have to be done these days to have overlapping objects on the build plate?

It’s always done that in every version. You accidentally overlap different objects and you will have a bad day. It will put plastic into the same place for both. You as the user are expected to merge the objects. Multi part object get clipped and so don’t cause this.

If you add an object as a Part of an existing object then you won’t see it. It’s the difference between Objects and Parts.

I am using Prusa Slicer 2.6.1 and also don't see the 'merge' feature.

I have an STL that I imported from Fusion360 and then I added a 'box' shape in Prusa Slicer itself that overlaps the original STL.

I would like to merge the 2 shapes but when I select them both and right-click, I don't see the 'merge' option.

Any suggestions?

RE:

Not off hand no.  Please save your project file (From PS, File>Save Project As) to generate a Prusa slicer 3mf file.  The zip it up into an archive and attach it here.  Must be zipped or the forum wont allow it.  We can then open it and see if the merge function is available.

Seems to be a problem with adding connectors... I am going to add this as a separate thread....
