Not able to have both custom user presets and custom G-code at the same time

Hi, I have an Ender-3 V2

I use three custom user print presets all saved under "Creality Ender-3 V2 (0.4mm nozzle)", which is the default printer profile that prusaslicer generates.

Every time I try to make a change to the custom Gcode or filament parameters and save them, the slicer tells me to save them to a copy of that printer profile (as to not change the default system one), but when I click save, none of my custom print or filament presets have been carried over to the new printer profile.

I have not found a way to transfer over those print presets to the "copy" (custom) printer profile. I've tried both "export/import config" and "export/import config bundle", both of them put me back in the default printer profile (which doesn't have the custom Gcode I made).

As it stands I can't have a profile with both my print presets and my custom G-code at the same time, unless I manually change them every time I launch the app. Is there a way to transfer over my print settings to the custom printer profile that I'm not seeing?

Thanks in advance 🙂

RE: Not able to have both custom user presets and custom G-code at the same time

Not sure exactly what you are doing but yes it is possible and quite straight forward really.  It doesn't involve any of the export or import profile functions.

Prusa does not let you modify any of its presets as you have already discovered.  Open up the system on you want to modify.  Go to the settings of the profile.  Where you would normally modify it.  Then click the Save icon which will pop up that dialog about not allowing you to modify the profile and giving it a new name.  Go ahead and save a copy of the system profile with your custom name.

Now you have to select that profile so you are using the copy.  Make your changes and then click the save icon again.  That should save your updated profile.  You have to save each customised printer, filament and print profile individually using the Save icon next to the name dropdown.

If that is not working for you then there is something wrong with your setup/system.  You don't mention what OS you are using but make sure that PS has permissions to write to the folders it is storing data to.  That can be found by selecting Help>Show Configuration Folder.

When you open that location there should be folders for print, printer, filament etc  Your custom profiles are saved into the appropriate folder.  So if you saved a copy of your printers profile as "My Printer" there should be a file in the Printer folder called "My Printer.ini" with a time/date stamp of when it was last saved.
