Multiple 2nd Extruder parts not shown post-slice

I'm trying to print a hex-head driver holder with highlighted hole sizes on my Voron 2.4/300/Misschanger.  The body will be black and the hole size text will be red.  I exported the model, consisting of one part that is the body, and a composite part consisting of 21 pieces that make up the associated hole size text from OnShape as a .3MB project.  I set the extruder for all text parts to Extruder 2, and the body to Extruder 1.  However, when I slice the model, only the body shows up - no layers contain text objects.  Any idea what I'm doing wrong here?

Without your prusa slicer project its impossible to tell.  Use File>Save project as from PS once its all set up to slice.  Then take the 3mf produced from Prusa Slicer and zip it up.  Then attach the zip file to a reply here.

A .3mf saved from PS will contain all the settings as well as the parts and is what is needed to debug issues.  Zipping the file up is required by the forum, as it only accepts a very limited number of file types.  If you don't zip it the forum will just silently not attach anything.

I could take a wild guess but thats all it would be.  You have layer height of 0.2 it looks like from the profile name, and your object is 35.1mm high.  Are the numbers 0.1mm high by any chance ?  Actually if they fall even a fraction less than 35.1, say 35.099 (which the display will round up) but the slicing engine wont slice as its a not half a layer so it simply wont be enough.  With the project it would be easy to check.

Thanks for the prompt response!  Zip file attached.  Let me know if you need anything else

Its what I guessed it was.  Your main body is 35.00mm high, your numbers are raised 0.1mm above that surface.  Thats a problem for the slicer with your settings.

Your first layer is 0.3 and subsequent layers are 0.2.  So it slices the main body and by the time its done that your main body works out to being 35.1mm high.  It has the option of 34.9 or 35.1 for that part given your settings so it chooses 35.1.

However even changing the first layer height to 0.2 too to allow it to precisely fit 35.00 still doesn't solve the problem.  It does make your main body fit the slice parameters but as the test is only 0.1mm high that's not enough for it to register as a valid layer so it doesn't slice it.

You have several options.  In no particular order.

1 - modify your design to increase the height of the test to match at least a full layer height, increase from 0.1 to 0.2 (or 0.21 to make sure a slicer will 100% fall to the side of the calculation you want.

2 - Change the print layer height from 0.2 to 0.1

3 - add a height range modifier for the last 0.1 of the model height to set the layer height on that layer to 0.1

4 - use the VLH (Variable Layer height tool) to make the top layers thinner

Personally if the model was mine I would go with option 1 increasing the text height, probably to 0.4 so that the text gets 2 layers printed so there's no colour bleed through and its nice and solid compared to the background colour

If I was looking at slicer only options then I would go with option 3 as its the easiest and gives more control than  VLH.  You need to also reduce the last layer on the main body too as the combination of first layer height and main layer print height still adds up to 35.1.  If you don't then still no text.

Attached a modified version as an example.

Ps as I hit the edit timer limit again,

Orca Slicer (which is based on both PS and Bambu Labs derivative of PS slicer) has a precise Z height option, which automatically handles these types of things when enabled.  When designing items (if you do so) it is always best to keep in mind the limits of the final manufacturing process.  ie making sure features are printable in both size and orientation etc.

Thanks for the explanation!  I have been printing with PS for years now and never run into this problem.  Just lucky I guess.  The design is mine to change, but I think I'll try option 3 - add a height range modifier for the last 0.1 of the model height, as I have never done that before.

interesting - is there any example how to set up VLH with multiple colors in different objects? When I try, I get the complaint (Core one MMU with wipe tower) that using the wipe tower requires the same VHL profile on all objects. That would be fair enough but I see no way to copy it.

With single-color print I usually merge into one object then use auto-VLH, which works fairly well.
