Make shell model solid inside

Hi! Is there a way to make an object as a solid on the inside when it´s just a shell (partly open) or a thin surface in Prusa slicer?

Best Answer by Neophyl:

Nope.  That model is not in any way shape or form suitable for 3d printing.  Its essentially a skin for a render.  Basically to make that solid and suitable is going to take a metric tonne of work.  Probably be easier to remesh/rebuild it from scratch.

It will take someone way better than me to remesh that 🙂  Maybe one of the guys familiar with meshmixer might take a crack at it.

Please post a copy of your Prusa Slicer project file.  If you dont know how, load your model(s) slice and get the problem you are concerned about.  The use File>Save Project As from the menu.  That will save a PS 3mf file.  The 3mf contains the parts, any modifiers and more importantly all the settings from the 3 profiles you are using.    With it we can try and debug things.

There are however different slicing modes.  So choosing something like close holes *might* work but it depends on your model geometry.  A slicer isnt normally the best way to do these things.  Its job is slicing a model.  Using CAD to modify the model so it is solid is the normal workflow.

Thanks for reply, i´ve been busting my brains around that in Rhino5 and Rhino8.

Normally i always build my own models, simple stuff for mechanics, but this time i had to use a model of a coat from the web and it´s not to print as-is.

I just don´t find a good way to close the model so it´s just a completely solid-body "shell". I will process the file and post it in a moment. If you want you can look at my STL, i know it´s bonkers.

Coat model

Please find the Prusa project file attached.

The machine is a I3 MK3

Thanks for your help

I tried to patch it, cerate surfaces, SkinWrap it and so on, but as you wrote, it´s a lot of work and nothing i can build myself.

I will look for a new, solid model or ask some gifted friend to rebuild the skin into a solid.

Thanks for your kindness and help.

All the best!
