Ironing in 3d-Shapes
Hey Guys,
I'm interested in Ironing of 3D-Shapes. Things like an small arc in Z-direction (no problems with the size of the hotend or the cooling). Shouldn't be impossible
Is there any possibility to do that for the finished contour? Or isn't it still possible?
That's a lot easier said than done. Ironing a flat surface is simple, there is nothing to get in the way; 'though I never bother, much quicker to post process with wet wet and dry paper.
Any 3D ironing risks colliding with taller parts or just having too little space to get into the surface. It's not just the risk of a crash and maybe dislodging a print but also there is a high chance of melting plastic onto the sides of the nozzle or hotend causing problems next print. The devs are unlikely ever to implement this because even if they managed the practical geometry they would get endless complaints every time the slicer refused to code ironing because the geometry prevented it. No dev wants to implement something that potentially causes more problems than it fixes; especially as simple sanding and painting will usually do a better job.
Cheerio,
