How to select the support extruder/color
I am using an MK4S+MMU3. All with the latest firmware and the latest sliver version (2.8.1).
Please note for this all 5 colors in the MMU3 are PETG.
Issue #1 follow these steps:
- Load a single project into the slicer
- Go to the Print Settings Tab
- Select Support material on the left
- Enable Generate Support Material
- Select Multiple Extruder on the left
- Change the Support material/skirt/extruder and/or the Support material/raft interface extruder
- Enable the wipe tower so the support extruder/color so that filament changes will be clean.
- Notice the Wipe Tower Dialog box
All I wanted to do here was have a different color for the supports than the print. Why is irrelevant.
From what I can find, it is impossible, in Prusa Slicer 2.8.1, to select the extruder/color you want for the supports. regardless of whether the project is multiple colors or a single color. If you select yes in the dialog box the Support Material boxes revert back to 0 and if you select no, the Wipe Tower is disabled.
Selecting a different extruder for the supports without the wipe tower will cause the having the main colors in the supports and the support color in the main print.
Have I missed something or is this a bug?
I will be cross posting this to the Prusa Slicer github repository as well.
Thank you for reading this.
RE: How to select the support extruder/color
As far as I know, this is a "feature": supports need to be printed with the current extruder if the wipe tower is active. Why, I don't know. I don't think there's a workaround for it.

RE: How to select the support extruder/color
My point exactly. And if you don't have a wipe tower how do you keep the support material out of the regular print and how do you keep the regular material out of the supports?
To me this is so obvious that I cannot believe the slicer can't do it. I wonder if this issue is the same with the XL and multiple tools?

RE:
I know this is a year later, but I came across this very same issue, and I was trying to find the answer. I finally found the answer, and I wanted to add it here in case someone else had the same issue and couldn't easily find the answer (this thread came up multiple times during my search lol)
Here is what I did to enable the wipe tower with a multi material print, meaning I am printing a PETG object with PLA supports:
1) Prusaslicer printer settings --> Support Material (on the left pane) --> Top contact Z Distance set to 0 (soluble)
2) Prusaslicer printer settings --> Multiple Extruders (on the left pane) --> Support material extruder set to the extruder you have the different support filament material in (for my example, I set it to 5 since that is where the PLA is)
3) Prusaslicer printer settings --> Multiple Extruders (on the left pane) --> Wipe Tower Extruder set to the extruder you have the primary filament material in (for my example, I set it to 1 since that is where one of the PETGs are)
4) Prusaslicer printer settings --> Multiple Extruders (on the left pane) --> Enable Wipe Tower (you will no longer get this warning message)
Once you have done this in the settings, you can now slice and you will see the supports in the different color than the object along with a different wipe tower structure (mine had multiple levels alongside the central tower, I am assuming for the different materials).
If you have found a better way to fix this in the past year please let me know! Thank you
