How to increase gap between infill lines in first layer?
Hi, I quite like the infill pattern visible in the first layer of a print I'm doing. It's barely visible however, which I suppose is usually the desired behavior.
Does anyone know a way to create a small gap between infill lines on the first layer and make the pattern more visible?
Thanks!

I guess you may try and reduce the extrusion width for the infill pattern for the first layer. But I haven't tried it myself (or even contemplated it) so not sure what it would look like.

Hi, thanks for the reply!
I played around with this parameter and noticed that although it changed the extrusion width in the 3d preview, it also adjusted the density of fill lines to compensate. I haven't tried a real print yet.
In some sense I'm trying to break things a little by introducing slight gaps. It's probably a good thing that I'm having a hard time. 🙂

Raise the nozzle on the first layer.

Thanks for the suggestion!
I think that would work except that it's a rounded shape and I need to keep the layers consistent and as thin as possible.
Saying that I seem to remember a setting to print infill at multiples of the layer height.. maybe there's something there.

I don't know what print sheet you're using but the satin sheet tends to show the extrusions more than the PEI or textured.

I don't think the original request is possible without postprocessing the gcode. But using a different filament might get the visual impact you want.
For example, here is a print that I did and the side that is up was against the bed when printing. This is using Filament PM Silver (the type that used to be included with MK3 kits), and I printed with hilbert curve bottom fill pattern. The part feels smooth (because I printed on the smooth PEI plate), but the resulting visual pattern is almost holographic when viewed with stereo vision (i.e. two good eyes, instead of a photograph).
I've had other filaments that have similar visual effects. I don't have a picture handy, but I've had similar results with a 2-color coextrusion filament that I have.
