How Portable are 3mf Files?

There's a print I found in the printables database which consisted of three printable models. Two of the models were made to snap together, and it was done as two models to avoid the need for supports. In PrusaSlicer, I loaded the second model as a part of the first one, then aligned them perfectly as though they were snapped together. This left some open channels which needed supports. I didn't need those open channels, so I filled them in with modifiers.

The question I have is whether or not this 3mf file is now portable. If I post this as a remix, will I need to indicate that it should only be sliced with PrusaSlicer, or should it work fine in any slicer that supports 3mf files?

3mf is an archive of the part(s) and some settings files.  A slicer loading it will only open files that it can use ignoring others, settings for several different slicers could, in theory, be contained in a single .3mf.

This doesn't sound like a remix, you have, if anything, reduced the options available for a downloader without adding anything..?

RE: How Portable are 3mf Files?

The term "remix" may be generous, but I do feel that my changes add value circumstantially. The posting is a cat door. My changes allow for the item to be printed in two pieces (frame and door) instead of three pieces (frame front, frame back, and door). Additionally, the door was designed to have a small clearance with the frame. Any pressure on the frame will cause the door to rub, so I shrunk the door by 2mm in the X and Y dimensions. So, I believe I added value in making this part easier to print and less likely for interference to cause the door to hang open.

However, it lost the ability to use magnets (though I could easily add that back in with a couple of negative modifiers, and may do so when my kittens are a bit bigger) and insulation strips for cold climates.. I'm not convinced that the insulation strips are better than some air-filled-plastic though.

But it sounds like what I thought. PrusaSlicer will add in data to the 3mf file for project settings. There's no standard for slicers to follow for adding in the custom project settings, so other slicers may ignore them.

I appreciate your time in responding, thank you!
