How do I stop a brim on supports?
I've tried searching and seems all instructions I've found are out of date. How do I stop a brim from being printed for supports on build plate for this instance? This keeps putting a brim outside printable area. Support blockers are not working really as I need support ideally all up until the edge and besides it still often ignores them. Frustrating as I can't really shrink this part so need the entire bed space here but it's going outside the printable area.
RE: How do I stop a brim on supports?
Hi, the extra base area of supports is not brim setting. The brim settings are for the part(s) itself.
The setting you are looking for is in Support Material>Support Material>First Layer Expansion. Its a red setting so you must be in expert mode to see it.
Also Im not sure if you understand how blockers and enforcers work. They are NOT keep out areas. A support modifier (blocker or enforcer) marks areas on the Objects that you want to have supported. Same as painting does. Your modifier mesh must actually touch the object faces to be effective.
Once areas are designated as needing or not needing support the normal support algorithm takes over and does its thing based on the settings you supply. So you can put all the blockers you like and support will go right through them if needed to support an area that it thinks needs support.
Its one reason why I very rarely use blockers and instead use the Support for Enforcers option and then paint only the critical areas where you need support. You can achieve far more control that way (with practice).
