Help with understanding supports?

attached are 2 pics: pic 1 is the model to be printed.   The second is the model turned on its side.  when sliced, i get warning that print stability issue -> long bridging extrusions;

Is this because turned on its side, there is no support between the slot which would collapse?  If i enable supports, model becomes solid.. no slots.  What settings do i need?

It's very difficult to see what that is.

Can you please post some kind of oblique view?

RE:

Wow, that was fast!

Yes, if you turn it on its side, the bridged portions will sag significantly.  (Without supports, that is.)

If this were mine, I would try printing it without supports with the slots in the vertical plane.

The rounded edges on the bottom will be tricky, but my hunch is that if you tried to use (break-away) supports on them, the blemishes from removing the supports will be just as ugly (or more so) than the sag of the first few layers.

I'm fairly confident that printing without support and then using something like a sanding sponge to clean up the lower edges will get you the print that you expect.

One other thing I might do if this were my project is to replace the rounded (fillet) edges with 45 degree chamfers, as those usually print much better.

Can't see any reason to print this on its side. Those fillets may actually print just fine but as jsw said, you can always sand them.
