Having a lot of trouble printing ABS
Hi! I've done a lot of PLA printing, and recently started using ABS because I need something with better heat tolerance. Unfortunately, I've had a hell of a time getting things to print. At all. My first issue was warping; while I haven't successfully gotten a full print off yet, I do think I've addressed this with a wider brim, PVP glue, and a new printer enclosure.
Now I'm left with 3 big issues. I suspect some of them are at least in part slicer related, but there are some general printing issues too. Nonetheless I'm hoping to get some guidance as I continue to work through things.
Issue #1: Bad corners
When I print an extrusion calibration wall, I get some imperfections along the corner where the nozzle turns around and moves up a layer. This seems to be related to the last issue below as well, where any time the nozzle makes a quick movement (e.g. if the path is short), I get a little oozing.
Issue #2: bumps and holes
On the same print, I get some issues on 3 of the walls (but weirdly not the 4th, at all). I thought it might be nozzle temperature related, but I've tried the range recommended by the filament manufacturer (Overture), and it hasn't made any difference.
Issue #1: Horrible first layer
A lot of the issues in the above image were caused by the probe z offset being wrong. Fixing that did help quite a bit, but I'm still getting oozing any time the nozzle either moves to a different location or does a "u-turn" (like at the ends of the zig zags). This happens even several layers up, so I don't think it's offset-related. I will try to post a new picture after my current print finishes.
Things I've calibrated:
- X, Y, Z, E steps
- Extrusion
- Probe offsets
- Bed levelling
The only thing I haven't done, which I will probably do after my current print finishes, is calibrate the retraction.
Prusa 2.6.1 print settings:
- Nozzle Temp: 255C
- Bed Temp: 95C
- Fan: off
- Print speed: 40m/s
- (everything else is Prusa defaults)
Any suggestions for other things I can do would be greatly appreciated!
