forcing filament change

Hi,

using Slice 2.0 (also 2.1) with standard Prusal PLA setting.

With larger objects I'm getting the issue, that during print the printer is runing into the change filament-procedure, however I have no filament change defined. I was not able to identify some G-code for the corresponding sequence (however I'm not to familiar with the code itself). This happens multiple times, e.g. on the attached 6h print at least 5 or 6 times! ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3587161 ) but also on other large objects as well.

I'm aware how to force a filament change in the slicer software, but haven't applied this in the discussed model.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? Any idea?

Thanks

Plume

RE: forcing filament change

What printer? MK3 has a sensor that is somewhat unreliable depending on filament color and translucence.  Even the MK3S sensor can have false positives.  Try disabling the filament sensor to make sure you aren't fighting that issue.

Sorry, missed the printer info: MK3 with filament sensor enabled.

happened with white as well as transparent-white so worthwile to check!

However I wonder the printer want's to change the filament and not claiming missing filament (or similar) instead!? No comment at all for failing PLA?!

RE: forcing filament change

White (bright reflective filament) and translucent (no reflections) fool the laser in the MK3 sensor; well known issue with many dozens of posts on the subject, and why the MK3S was made using a simpler IR concept.

The MK3 sensor detects filament movement, and when it doesn't detect movement it flags the run out alarm.  The only solution on those filament types and colors is to disable the sensor.
