Filament brand as output file name

Hi!

In the Prusa Slicer...

Print Settings -> Output options -> Output filename format

We can set options on what the automatically generated .gcode filename should be. Currently, there is only an option to include what type of filament the print is sliced in (e.g. PETG, PLA, etc) but no information about brand. However, the print settings are slightly different depending on what type of filament it is (for example if it's Prusament or AddNorth etc), so it's very relevant to have that information in the filename.

Since there currently (to my knowledge) is no way to have the filament name (not just type) be automatically input into the .gcode filename, I have to manually edit each filename to specify which type of filament it's sliced in. Would be good if it's automated.

RE: Filament brand as output file name

This is a user to user forum.  What you want sounds like a feature request.  If you want to request a feature (or report a bug etc) then that needs to be made over at the Prusa Slicer github repository located https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues   Request a new placeholder.

The list of current placeholders is located in the knowledge base here https://help.prusa3d.com/article/list-of-placeholders_205643
There appears to be one called "filament_preset" which when added to your output string includes the filament presets given name.  Given that you can name your filament presets as whatever you want (as long as they don't duplicate a system one) this would appear to fulfil your wish so a new placeholder seems a bit redundant.

Thanks for the reply! When I try to use the "filament_preset" variable though, I get an error (see attached screenshot). For future people reading this, you have to add [0] after, so "filament_preset[0]". That fixes it.

OMG I just spent 30 mins trying to figure out why [filament_preset] wouldn't work.... then I found your post! Thank you!

RE: Filament brand as output file name

I always rename the filament type so I can identify them better. They are now named like: PLAprusa, PLAm4p, PETGsun and so on.

Would be better to have a shortname for every Profile but this workaround works for me. You also can see the name when assigning the filaments before print on the LCD! (MK3.5 with MMU)

Printing PLA and PETG at the same time? See the Guide for MultiMaterialSupports ----- Ejecting Buffer cassettes is not satisfying? May the Fork be with you!
