Feature request: aligners for bigger models
Hi,
I'm printing a bigger architectural model and it would be great to have the possibility to add an aligner function in PrusaSlicer.
This means that you would be able not just to cut a part but also add an aligning bump, groove, lip or recessed area so to be able to align the two parts more easily when glueing them together afterwards. Of course implementing a tolerance option between the mating parts in order to prevent extra sanding would be great too.
If you get to use a true to scale STL from, say, Archicad, you can bypass another CAD tool which you would have to use just to have this relatively easy functionality. Messing around with the architectural model in Archicad for this is not really an alternative.
Hope this is "heard" by PrusaSlicer team - or is there another platform/email where such a request could be put?
Thanks
RE:
I really should have this post ready to copy and paste 🙂 Here we go.....
This is a user to user forum.. While the devs do occasionally pop in here, it is NOT the place to make feature requests. That needs to be done over on the official Prusa Slicer github, located here - https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues
Issues raised over there get tracked and will be much more visible to the developers.
Here is ok to discuss feature requests, get them into a suitable state to post over there for example.
However - theres always an however, as there are over 1900 open issues and 5400 closed issues then its highly likely that your request has already been made so please do a thourough search before opening new issues. For example your request for 'aligners' to help locating parts that have been cut already has at LEAST one issue already. For example-
https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/5553 or
https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/803
RE:
...and it's already possible.
Right click on model, Add negative volume
Adjust to the size and position you want:
Slice as required keeping both parts, the keyway remains in both.
Save project, delete one part print.
Reload project, delete other part, print.
Print key.
Assemble.
Cheerio,
RE: Feature request: aligners for bigger models
What Deim said, and that's assuming you wouldn't be doing this in your 3d software, why on earth would you even want to do this in your slicer, it's not a modeling tool, it's a tool for 3d print preparation. If you have to have both together many 3D software's have plugin's and/or built in direct to 3D printer exports. People seem to be very confused about what a slicer is, and PrusaSlicer is NOT a modeling tool.
