Feature Idea: Allow Vertical Cuts w/ Cut tool
Right now, if you have a model that is too wide and want to print in two separate pieces, you have to rotate it, cut, and then rotate back again. Cutting in the X or Y plane could save just a bit of time.
But it's much better to make the division(s) in the originating cad software and incorporate keyways.
Even if you've messed up the dimensions rotating in slicer takes negligable time compared to printing.
Cheerio,

I agree with Diem, this is what Cadd is for, and it takes 2 button presses minimum to rotate the object in slicer, if they gave us a rotating (slice plane) I wouldn't complain about it, but you would still have to press buttons and move things to get a result.

The slicers options like cut should only be used on a one off basis. Imagine the pita it would be if in six months time you make a slight mod to the part and try to print it again, trying to remember where the cut was.
RE: Feature Idea: Allow Vertical Cuts w/ Cut tool
I cut in the slicer to make a test print of a small modified part, before I spend hours printing the whole thing.
So being able to cut within the slicer is a valued option for me, making it easier would be highly appreciated.

Or better yet, allow simple boolean operations. There is already the negative parts feature but it would also be useful if we could use any model and subtract it from the main model within the slicer. It could be used for simple cuts in any orientation or to create holes for connectors with tolerances, etc. Ideally this would all be done in the CAD but we don't always have those, only the STL, OBJ or 3MF.
RE:
Carlos, you can. You can load any part in as a negative volume. As you can also add parts to your internal library then its easy to add your desired shapes for easy reuse too.
RE: Feature Idea: Allow Vertical Cuts w/ Cut tool
Yes, I know that you can load models and use them as a negative part. I use it a lot. But what I mean is different and it would be mainly for bigger objects.
I think it would be a nice feature to have in the slicer . Similar to the negative volume feature but with a permanent effect on the object and not just in the gcode.
To do this cuts I use Meshmixer and there is also LuBan that a lot of people use.
Also think it would be nice if we could adjust the angle of the cut operation like anthonyeseck suggested.

That is what the function is there for.
RE: Feature Idea: Allow Vertical Cuts w/ Cut tool
Between "negative objects" and "Sinking" I hardly use "cut" for creating test sections. Both are non destructive and allow you to maintain any painted supports or seams to be recalled after slicing and printing tests. One cut will erase all that work, it is still a useful tool though.

I think software that provides multiple ways to achieve the desired result are great, different strokes for different folks.
