Error when slicing a model (PrusaSlicer)

Hello -

I am using PrusaSlicer to print a part of a model skyscraper.  The building should be hollow on the z-axis. When I import the model into Slicer (.stl - exported from Sketchup) it looks good until I slice it.  When I do, an extra layer is added above 181mm (essentially adding a "roof" - lavender color in the picture).  The model doesn't have any errors in Solid Inspector 2, and looks correct in Cura - I'd prefer to use PrusaSlicer.

stl file linked here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9q8yp3tb1pc2k22/test.stl?dl=0

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Michael

Thanks for the update.

I use Microsoft's 3D Builder to clean up files. Its's on the Windows web store, free. Quick, easy, and I find better than NetFabb. It was what I used to clean up the exported stl you posted.

Save the file in a ZIP, then post the zip here. Dropbox is a bad place to store files linked to forums because they disappear and the thread becomes useless for future readers.

But slicer has setting for top and bottom layers. Set top layers to zero (0) and that roof goes away. Same for the floor.

Also - after loading your model - it has multiple shells and 278 errors - you'll need to fix those before Slicer will do everything that you are trying to do. And, setting top and bottom layers to zero will probably give you a result on that sidewalk you don't want; so it'll be best to make the model hollow in the places you don't want surfaces and infill. You can work around the design issues with slicers, but the end result may not be what you are looking for.

I did a quick cleanup --- here's what I got:

Thanks for your help Tim!  One question, What software did you cleanup the model in?  I saw the errors, but have had some issues with cutting components in Sketchup (I generally model in Sketchup and export into into Slicer).

I've zipped and attached the file as requested.

Thanks again!

Here's a copy of the stl after running it through 3D Builder... takes only seconds to fix.

Thanks Tim!  I just downloaded Microsoft 3D builder - it was easy to fix.  Thanks for sending the above repaired file too.
