Ensuring dark filament is fully extruded before light section (mk4/mmu3)

I have done a few prints with very dark and very light sections next to each other. At first, I thought that the infill was bleeding through, causing some of the light sections to look like they mixed with the darker filament, but now I realize the infill is not the issue, but insteax I need to extrude more between filament switches.

I am curious to know what amount most people have found is sufficient without being wasteful when making this type of change (e.g. black-to-white) with an MK4/MMU setup, ideally.

Thanks,

Sean

Best Answer by Sean Kane:

This is definitely caused by the default purge volumes and even my initial adjusted purge volumes being too low. From very dark to very light colors, I have found that I need to set a custom purge volume around 250.

RE: Ensuring dark filament is fully extruded before light section (mk4/mmu3)

I am a bit confused now about what exactly is happening. I have adjusted the virtual extruders used for infill, etc., to ensure they are using the one with the white filament, and I have played around with the purging settings a bit, increasing them to 100 and 120mm, but it doesn't seem to help. Also, the fact that the bands are consistent around the layer seems odd.

Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Sean
