Easy way to stick STL's together
Hi all
my use case is printing 3d scenery for wargames
most of the models come in multi part which is good to remove the top floor to access the lower floors
However - many models have also been cut up to make them printable with smaller printers - now I have an XL I would like to join these models back together - I have been doing it by hand but there must be a better way to make them line up.
RE: Easy way to stick STL's together
It won't work in the slicer, use some CAD program to edit the models, it might be possible to join the files there..

I would suggest you take a look at Meshmixer by Autodesk. Free and simple.
RE:
IF the parts have been saved as STL's with the Orientation data intact, you can add one bottom part to Prusa Slicer, then Right click on that part, and choose 'AddPart>Load' from the menu, and add a second part. hopefully it will magically appear in the correct location, relative to the first part
If this works, repeat for the remaining parts.
If you download and open the attached '5183762-Parts.zip' zip file,
then open prusa slicer, and add the STL 'Base.stl'
then Right cclick on the base and Add Part > Load 'Part1'
then repeat, adding 'Part 2'
you should end up with
with two lines of text aligned on top of the base
Parts 3mf < this is a .3mf file of the prusa slicer session, above
Note, this only works with STL Files that have been saved with the orientation data intact
