My guess why it does not work on your system is either because you did not use the special "Developer command prompt" from Visual Studio for the build or because you have a version mishmash of Visual Studio on your system that causes problems when trying to find the correct version of tools and libraries.

I installed all the apps I mentioned in my post only today. It is a recent install of Windows 11 from November or thereabout with only Office installed and not much else.

Also perhaps important for this: do not use the standard windows cmd shell for the build, but the special command shell that came with Visual Studio. It has some elements in the path that the standard cmd has not.

When the dep build reached the package dep_z3, it failed and complained about missing python executable. I installed python and the build continued without further problems.

After that I followed the steps in the guide to build via Visual Studio. It took a while, because I had not disabled the debug build, but it was successful and the Printables tab is no longer there.

I tried first with cmake-4.2.3 and the build process failed with lots of errors during the dep phase of the build. Then I looked into the github issues and saw somebody mention using an older version of CMake. So I deinstalled my version 4.2.3 and installed version 3.31.11. Then I restarted the build (using Visual Studio Community 17 2022) and it is still running at the moment with no errors so far. I'll report back with the final result later.

Some years ago I managed to compile PrusaSlicer on Windows 10 as well. The build instructions for Windows mention running a script that should perform all the steps once the prerequisite software packages (MSVC, CMake and git) are installed. So far I have not bothered to install them since I switched my Windows (laptop and VM) to 11, so I have not tried this on Windows 11 yet. Perhaps I'll try over the weekend if the instructions from Prusa are still valid for Windows 11.

I built from main a few days ago. It takes a while but it does the job. In my case I have to build it either way since Prusa no longer supports AppImage. Both kind of disappointing (and while I'm throwing shade, adding back in things like print completion so I can get mQTT updates from OctoPrint would be nice). Another option is to switch to something like OracSlicer or SuperSlicer.
